EDIT: Just grammar errors

Like Brawl, it's a likely possibility that not everyone from Melee will return.

This could be due to being replaced by something more current (Lucario over Mewtwo), being essentially a less popular clone (Pichu and to some extent Doc) or just becoming too relic of a character, both aesthetically and in playstyle (no one so far.)

If anyone has to get booted in my mind it should be:

Jigglypuff - Just give Kirby some extra maneuverability and Jigg's bair and you've opened another space. Their really isn't a load of differences between the two comparitively and Jigg's has become dated in popularity, relevance and playstyle. I say this knowing full well that he's top tier, has strong carries and that Hungrybox would not be pleased. Screw Rest, open up a spot for Megaman.

R.O.B - This I don't feel as strongly about, but he shouldn't have been put in the game in the first place. His role as the unexpected weird character is filled by G&W and he himself seems quite irrelevant among not only the popular cast, but the strong independents like Pit and Ice Climbers that are much more unique. I say this knowing JCaesar would not be pleased.

Lucario - In my mind Lucario, even talking inclusively within Pokemon, has always been an attempt at re-capturing what made Mewtwo popular. He shoots energy blasts, he talks in the movie, he's jaded and he's really strong. The thing is, Mewtwo got the whole evil villian/anti-hero pokemon thing going (which is still pretty much unique to that franchise) and well ... he was our first. We still have feelings for him and I want him over Lucario.

And finally for someone I'm sure will go, even if I don't want him to:

Snake - It was by personal request by Kojima himself that got him in originally and Sakurai hasn't made it all that clear on his position on 3rd party characters returning (I think Sonic has a better chance of staying since he's the fastest character, he still frequents games with Mario and people rallied for his inclusion for a long time.) I believe Snake's style is unique, but it does clash a bit with the rest of the cast and perhaps giving his spot to someone else would maintain some homogeny within the cast. Maybe give his spot to ... Dr. Eggman! Popular villian where villian's are needed, loads of possibilities for an interesting moveset and could fill the hole left by Snake.

So in the case that some of the cast must get off the bus, who would it be? Who would you want to see leave and who do you think likely could?

No to replacing Snake with a second Sonic rep.

At least replace him with another Konami character like Simon Belmont or Bomberman.

Jiggs, R.O.B and to a lesser extent Snake aren't going anywhere. there's no good reason to get rid of them. as for Lucario, your reasons are very shallow for wanting him gone. why couldn't we have both him and Mewtwo?

I'm getting tired of all this Lucario vs Mewtwo bull****. Some people like Mewtwo, some like Lucario and some like both. I'm one who likes both. Cutting one just because you prefer Mewtwo isn't a good reason whatsoever especially when there's plenty of room for both. And what do you mean R.O.B isn't "relevant". I can guarantee you he was much more relevant than IC ever was and more important at that. Not that relevancy matters at all with retros.

Nobody. Pretty much every character in Smash got in for a reason, and IMO all of them deserve to stay.

Also, more of this Lucario-Mewtwo thing? Blegh.

Based on the little snippets we've heard, I firmly believe Snake is toast. Possibly Sonic too. But nobody really knows that until it's released (or at least leaked), it's just a firm hunch based on my interpretation of Sakurai's comments.

I think the other characters in most jepoardy are Lucario, Wolf, and Pokemon Trainer. Lucario is under threat from two subsequent generations, and Pokemon Trainer 5. I wouldn't be surprised if Lucario ends up the same as Mewtwo in Brawl - intended, but inevitably doomed by priority. The lack of new Star Fox since Brawl doesn't bode well for Wolf, but I hope he stays.

i can agree that some characters may not make it back due to priority and time constraints. but i doubt any are going to be intentionally left out.

Nobody, preferrably.

Also, I believe that the rules for the character discussion says that threads about cuts are not allowed.

You're not supposed to give YOUR opinion in the first post of YOUR thread! It just sets ya up for hate / limits the discussion. Anyway I think the Pokemon Trainer will unfortunately be replaced. Still, the new pokemon will fill the void.

I see a perfectly plausible reason for Jigglypuff to be cut in that she's far less relavent to Pokemon than she was when she got in when only the 1st gen was around, and the popularity that got her in in the first place is not only gone, but inching in the opposite direction. Jiggs has a bit of a hate-base, and I'm part of it. However I won't be around to defend my argument because I'm going to bed. Night guys

Lucario cause pokemon is nintendo's most trendy and popular franchise and they can just replace him with a new angry faced two legged creature.
It happened with Mewtwo, so it will probably happen again. Mewtwo was and still is one of the most famous pokemon too, yet still got the boot, so Lucario is surely a goner.

I really want Toon Link to go, but with the whole windwaker remake announced, theres a chance they may still want to keep him sadly.

I heard that Sakurai considered it important that a younger, light hearted Link to represent the younger generations was important. Like the little kids that have only played the DS games and what not. I am absolutely fine with Toon Link as long as Sakurai just gets creative and doesn't just slap bow+bombs+boomerang again when there's sooo much opportunity to make him unique.

yeah, I dont have a problem with there being an alternate Link, its just Toon Link had all the same moves and was really boring. In SSB4 if he has moves based off the Toon Link games, then I wouldnt mind him at all.

Yeah, I would actually lean in favor of cutting Toon Link. I would also cut third-party characters first before moving onto Nintendo fellows. Then you have Ike and Lucario which could be cut to make room for newer guys in their respective series. Other than that, possibly Sheik or Pokemon Trainer could have surprise replacements.

Outside of those, it's pretty hard to make cutting anyone else seem reasonable. Even Jigglypuff.

almost forgot about Fire Emblem, never really got into those games,
but I do know the protagonists change in each game.

Is Ike considered to be like the greatest characters in the series by fans, or are there other main protagonists that are popular enough to take his place in smash without creating too much backlash like the whole Mewtwo/Lucario thing?

What did I just read?
Take out Mario. No one even likes that dude now.
But seriously. Givr Wario a Wario Land moveset or yank him. :/ At least give him a few moves from his other games. Wario Man was okay. But why not his signature tackle bash thing? Lastly. Farts? Seriously. Ew.

EDIT: Oh and while I don't believe he needs to... I wish Wolf would go away. Or get a better design and less messed up moveset. No matter how I try his moveset never works for me. Nothing combos properly. And his weird Assault look is annoying. Why use a more Command-inspired look for Fox and Falco then use Assault? Keep in mind Star Fox is my FAVORITE series and I still want him cut. :p

At first, I thought your Mario comment was a joke. But after reading your Wario comment, I can't be sure.

You're complaining about such inane aspects of Wario. Your complaints against him warrant a couple of move changes rather than to be cut.

Come on, dude. Seriously? At first I thought you were going to complain about him being a clone (which he isn't), but that argument... really? You just said "I can't play well with a character, so he shouldn't return in the next game."

Wolf's 'assault' look is because he's a renegade mercenary. He's a risky fighter, too. Also, his moves are spectacular for combos. From what I've found, anyway.
Wolf's move, almost all of them, have good knockback so it's easy to juggle and get great combos off. He can chase people off Final Destination really well.

A trick I like at the start of the match is: A, A, A (to hit the rapid claws), sprint and do the dash attack, jump and hit a back-air, fast land and hit side b. I usually start with (40% or so within a couple of seconds) that or a juggle/combo usually consisting of downair, upair and neutralair that can get me about 65% + damage, it depends on how they move about in the air.

Wolf plays a lot like Ganondorf/Falcon so I adapted to him immediately.

Cut Jigglypuff, add Mewtwo
Cut Lucario, add Zoroark
Cut Pokemon Trainer Red, add Pokemon Trainer Gold
Cut Ike, add Chrom
Cut Sheik, add Impa
Cut Ganondorf, add Toon Ganondorf
Cut Snake, add Mega Man

And add back the cut characters in the last minute to buff the roster if Sakurai thinks the roster is still too small after he added about a dozen of newcomers who didn't replace anyone.

2) Why not just make Gold an alt costume? That's like saying 'Put Dr Mario back in!'

4) Why bother when Impa will more than likely keep Sheik's moveset?

5) With that logic, "Cut Link, keep Toon Link". Toon Link is to appeal to younger fans of Zelda, like the fans who played on 3DS or Wind Waker (they would be young when Brawl had come out). Toon Ganon... really? The game shouldn't be overrun by 'toon' or 'young' characters. Also, most recognise that Ganon's best look and model is from Twilight Princess, aside form the opinion he looks like a jacka** in Wind Waker. Plus, you could keep regular Ganon and add Groose. He can make for the 'toon bad guy' in SSB4 and, since Skyward Sword is the last new Zelda game, it makes more sense for him to be toon instead of Ganon.

6) Snake is likely being cut anyway. He was thrown in after the roster was decided because apparently they 'begged' Sakurai/Nintendo to put Snake in.

Weird, thought this topic would get locked already due what kind of a question this is.

When I said Pokemon Trainer Gold, I meant Red and 1st gen starters get cut and Gold and 2nd gen starters get in. Does that anger you? :troll:

Ike is pretty much the greatest yeah. You shouldve seen his support pre-Brawl. His backlash would be less than Mewtwo's but higher than Roy's.

Y'know....I like this, a Toon Ganondorf with 2 blades over an as of right now Falcon clone Ganondorf sounds good. Mega Man over Snake sounds like a surprising compromise but I doubt it would cause too much uproar.

Who'd you replace Sonic with?

Just to amend the first post, I'm not in support of cutting the roster but I do think it's likely that not everyone will return. I only gave my own opinions because I would like to be part of the conversation.

Beginning to realize that when you make a thread about something bad POSSIBLY happening, some people take it that you want bad things to happen. Remember, we are all here because we love SSB.

If this has to be moved, than mods come move it. If I have that ability, I'm unaware of it.

Anti threads should be avoided here, as they could potentially spawn a flame war. If you're against the inclusion of certain characters, just state your opposition in the proper threads.
