If my SD card is almost full, will it affect the performance of PM?

Hi all, I'm loving the mod but I just ran into my first freeze and was wondering what the cause was.

I was doing a Roy vs. Fox match on Kongo Jungle. First thing that happened was that Roy's Final Smash somehow missed Fox despite locking onto him and I just watched Roy attack nothing.

Secondly, the game crashed soon after. It did that loud buzzing noise that seems to be common.

Another thing I noticed is that when trying to play normal Brawl with my Project M SD card inserted, it starts loading everything slowly and is prone to crashing. Everything works fine once I take it out though.

The SD card I'm using came with my 3DS XL and has a lot data for that as well as Project M itself. The card is almost full now.

What I'm wondering is, do I need to get a separate SD card just for Project M? Do I need to delete the project M files on the other SD card? And does the SD card being almost full effect performance?

Thanks again!

It shouldn't affect the performance, if it does, it might mean your SD Card is faulty or the wrong type. The SD Card I'm using right now has a 2GB Capacity and only has 32mbs free on it. And I'm experiencing no lag. And if I recall, doesn't the 3DS XL come with an SDHC Card?

The one I'm using is a 2GB Toshiba SD Card I got from GS for like 7 bucks. Have yet to try the one that came with my 3DS though.

EDIT: I just checked my 3DS XL and it has a 4GB SDHC Card. I think I read somewhere that to make Project M work properly, your SD Card shouldn't be more than 2GBs. Maybe that could be the issue? Only time I had an issue was when using PM2.6 and the game would randomly crash when anyone picked the default Sonic color.

I just took a look at the one from the 3DS XL. It simply says it's a 2 GB SD card, not SDHC. There's a chance I may have swapped it with a different card before and don't remember though

In any case I just went out and bought a SanDisk 2 GB standard SD card that I'll use solely for PM.

Got everything set up with the new SD card. I haven't tested it for an extremely long time however I had forgotten that I had the Homebrew Channel installed on my Wii (U). So I used the "with homebrew and no wifi" download.

That, coupled with the SD card, might have fixed it. It hasn't locked up on me yet and I even had a match against Roy and everything worked fine. It may have had to do with Roy's final smash though, so I might test that out.

So in short, I would definitely try using a different SD card.
