So, items are banned from tournament plays, right? Don't think this rule will be changed, because it DOES add some randomness to it. Regardless of what you think about it, it is still a valid argument.
But how can we still use Final Smashes while still getting rid of these random appearing items?
By making the Final Smash not appear randomly. Or at least, randomly, but in a predictable fashion.
What if you can see a counter at the top, in place of the normal point match timer? It counts down until it reaches zero. Around ten seconds left, you can see a smash ball glowing on the stage, transparent, at a fixed point (of the main camera, so it scrolls with the stage when the stage is a scrolling stage, much like Peach always stayed in a fixed position when using her floating jump move). When the counter hits zero, the smash ball will flash (not with a blinding flash, because seriously, do you want to be blinded by an item while meteoring your opponent?) and the smash ball will appear on that spot, for everyone to be taken.
This way you can anticipate on the smash ball, and it still involves skills, since you now have to take in account that your opponent may be taking the smash ball home if you don't.
Smart, eh? Eh? Eh?
