I know nothing about Smash's programming, so I honestly don't know how feasible this is, but is there any way Project M could alter the game so that a second player can "drop in" on a match, arcade-style? Basically, pressing Start on a controller corresponding to a CPU in the current match would turn that CPU into PX for the remainder of the match.

This would be... handy I guess. Though, I feel like most people would rather just start a new match considering that CPU would have fewer lives than that of the human and maybe a character that the other guy wouldn't want to play. But, despite all of that, I kind of like the idea...

Yeah, I know it's not the most practical functionality, really just a novelty. But hey, sometimes you just want to get in there and fight that match. It's like sure, usually people will just start a new match, but for when you don't care and just want to start fighting, it'd be pretty convenient.

I would love a way to do this in training though. Moving a cpu back to center stage get's extremely tedious at times.

Well, you already can. Just have a second controller plugged into the 2nd slot and switch the CPU's mode to "control".

Unless I'm mistaken - I'm fairly sure in Arcades if you hit start in the middle of the match, it just starts the entire fight over, including choosing another character if need be.
