Smash Rookie
Hey guys, I'm phs_togusa and I wanna learn how to get good at smash. I'm a complete newcomer to Smash (and competitive fighting games in general), with Smash 4 being the first and only Smash game I've ever owned and played. My favourite characters thus far would have to be:
1) Mario (I always rock the stars and stripes costume because #MURICA)
2) Zero Suit Samus (I call her "The Major" because she looks like Motoko Kusanagi from Stand Alone Complex in her black suit)
3) Roy (Roy's our boy)
4) Captain Falcon (I got into the habit of opening every game I play using Falcon with his down taunt)
5) Ganondorf (He reminds me of Cloud from Dissidia in that he's really slow, hits like a truck, and his moves have a lot of lag, so he relies a LOT on reading your opponent)
6) Link (I like how his projectiles give me a good deal of options for approach, but I'll hold off on playing him until I get a better understanding of the game)
7) Donkey Kong (His golden fur costume reminds me of the Great Golden Ape from DBGT. Now I wonder if DK will go SSJ4)
8) Ness (his recovery was really annoying to get the hang of, and I still get the NB instead of the UpB sometimes but I really like playing him and I get the feeling that once I know what I'm doing, I'll REALLY take a shine to him. Now if only Giygas was a playable Smash character)
9) Sheik (I like Sheik, but she's really hard for me to get the hang of, although I think that's because I'm still learning the ropes)
10) Peach (My friends love Wedding dress Peach. I like Funeral dress Peach better)
I purchased Smash for 3DS in mid-October because of a promise I made to a friend, and I've just been frustrated with my apparent lack of progress since the day I started playing. I mean, I have obviously improved since the literal first day but I still find myself making the same stupid mistakes over and over again and it's gotten to the point where I feel like I've gotten worse since I started. My friends who I practice with have gone out of their way to come up with the most disrespectful means of savaging me purely because of my apparent lack of progress because they thought that I would be shamed into getting better but that didn't work and now I'm not sure what to do.
The biggest problem I have at the current moment is the fact that I keep inadvertently killing myself upon recovery whenever I'm close to the ledge. I know ledge-snap is a thing but I'm just ever so slightly off and I can't snap back onto the ledge. I've also got trouble DI-ing in general in that I'm not sure if I'm DI-ing too late, too early, or what. On top of that, my edgeguard game is lacking. I know of ways to gimp people and ledge hogging, but I haven't quite worked out how to do that because every time I try to push my opponent off the ledge, I hop off the ledge, fall for a bit, double jump, and try to recover by I'm recovering in the direction opposite of the ledge and then I fall to my doom. But I digress for now, because I've got chores to do and stuff like that. If yall can link me to some helpful Smash4 3DS guides, that would be great. Also, hope to see yall around on the site :D
