This is actually the big thing that I hope for a return for Smash4.

This was a feature on Brawl that unfortunately was cut down to 3 minutes only. I've heard nothing on this and the endgame screens showed nothing on the demos, but again they are demos after all.

I'm still hoping this will be a thing for 8 minute matches and not limited if it makes a return.

Thoughts ok it coming back or not?

I hope it comes back, personally. I would actually use it this time around.

It probably won't be like this, but I hope the replay system is similar to Mario Kart TV.

I would welcome it back, but in the spirit of true replays. Like not the game recording your movements and replaying them back, but an actual video. You can capture some pretty hilarious stuff on replays, and true replays would help people across the board, including people who don't have recording equipment. If you could have the replay as a decodable file (much like how Brawl pictures were, whatever happened to that decoder?) I think that'd be great

Saving input files is a lot better than saving raw video; saving raw video would have to either completely destroy your video quality or would fill up the Wii's internal drive really fast (high quality video files are huge, especially since mid-match there would be neither the time nor the system resources to implement a good compression algorithm). That being said, input file replays are technically very simple to the point that them not returning would be bizarre, and the only reason Brawl's had the 3 minute limit was to guarantee that no matter how crazy a four player match got it wouldn't overflow one "block" in the Wii's memory (for whatever reason, they weren't willing to write the code to link two blocks for large replays...). Hopefully with the Wii U or heck even the 3DS this will be far less of an issue, and hopefully that will be doubly true since honestly even on a casual level most people play matches longer than 3 minutes with the very short limit in Brawl being a common complaint.

If they do return and patch up this feature, yeah, it will be great for tournaments. I'd definitely implement as a standard "save all replays from touranment games", and from there, we now have a nearly endless supply of high level play.

I think what mk8 did with replays was a good start, if they could do something like that but expand it a bit that would be pretty great.

To be quite honest, I will be sorely disappointed if it Smash 4 doesn't have at least half the replay editing capabilities of Dissidia: Final Fantasy.

If a fully 3D game on the PSP can let me use key framing to set up my own custom camera angles, with the max amount of time for save-able replays being 15 minute matches, AND can let me convert the replay into multiple video formats of multiple qualities from within the game, then I expect a 2.5D Wii U/3DS game to AT LEAST have something akin to MK8.

I hope we get something like Mario Kart TV except for Smash Bros.

I wanna upload my replays to YouTube!
Even if we could only do short matches that would be such an amazing feature. I'd probably go nuts with CPU vs. CPU dream character mii matches & upload them all!

You know now that I think about it, I was really just concerned about desynching, which only really affected Project M haha. I didn't know input replays were a lot less data-hungry than actual files though, I kind of figured something along those lines but thanks for explaining it! But since it is based on inputs, would we see anything similar to desyching? I don't have enough Brawl replays to tell haha, and I bet anything would be minor (not like Project M replays which are suicide fests), but even if it is minor, it's still a slight issue. But for big tournaments, we have streams, so I guess it's not that big of an issue

The way replays work, by saving the player's inputs to a list and then reading the list to make the same inputs happen, would be cool if you could pause a replay and take control from any point. They could even rewind if you mess up.

It could be like an in game TAS.

Hey, if you can post Mario Kart replays to youtube, I don't see why they won't do it for smash

We might even get some basic editing tools, like Mkart, too.

I hope they expand upon the Replay feature in Smash 4. I felt that 3 minutes was a bit too short. Maybe up the limit to 10 minutes?

I don't know if anyone else had this issue in standard Brawl, but there were some matches that I recorded that didn't replay what actually happened. For example, I was playing as Link on Eldin Bridge and the replay showed me SDing myself with the Sword Plant move when the bridge was out. I don't remember SDing myself during the actual match.

What MK8 did was a good start in my mind. However, maybe expand upon it and add more camera options and not limit upload lengths to ~1 minute. I would like to be able to upload an entire match to YouTube. :)

But I do wonder how memory consumption would work if we had over 3 minutes of replay.

I think Mario Kart 8 was a good start to sharing replays, but the Mario Kart TV or Channel or whatever felt...lacking. I'm all for YouTube uploads and speeding up or slowing down the camera, but I also think being able to take screenshots during the match (like in MK8) would be good too. Also expanding the time for replays would be nice.

I'm blanking on other ways to expand it. Haha

MK8 was a great start as far as recording thinks go.. I'd love to see a similar system in place.

Perhaps a SmashTV or something.

Replays are the single feature I would be most disappointed in if it didn't return. The three minute limit is annoying af and needs to be ditched. Options to rewind, slow-mo and pause would be nice, but aren't as necessary.
