I think it is AWESOME that Subspace is a Side Scrolling platformer.

How about the awesomeness that Subspace is a side scroller?

We NEVER get a good, high profile side scroller for a home console anymore, heck they are even rare on DS, GBA, and PSP anymore, sans the movie and Disney channel games.

The last good console side scrollers I remember: Viewtiful Joe series. Other than that...I mean it just doesnt happen anymore. And while some may have hoped for the traditional Mario 64, Spyro, Donkey Kong 64, etc. style platformer of 3d walking around, the fact that it is a Side Scrolling platformer (in addition to the incredible fighter it also is), is, at least to me, a HUGE plus. Remember the original Mario, Sonic, Donkey Kong, Rayman, and Yoshi games? True classics, and true sidescrolling platformers.

This genre is a lost art. And I am glad to see a team that cares so much about releasing a game that is truly incredible is working on it. I have had a hunger for a really good side scroller ever since I finished New Super Mario Bros and Viewtiful Joe Double Trouble. I am really looking forward to this game. I was already when I thought it was just going to be like 64 and Melee, but now it is that PLUS an incredible platformer. How cool!!!!!!

Yeah, those recent videos really do bring back nostalgia. 2.5D platforming games are the way to go, looks so awesome. This game is gonna be incredible, I'm gonna feel guilty only paying $50

I agree, 2D side-scrollers are one of my favorite genres. We really need more of them, and with current technology it would seem like we would get more of them. I'm specifically looking at the latest gaming trend, downloaded content. Someone could easily slap together a difficult 7 stage side-scroller and then put it on WiiWare/XBL Marketplace/PS Network for $10. :/

On another note, Brawl is looking to be truly a masterpiece. I cannot wait. >_<

I totally agree. I love these, in fact, a recently released game I worked on was an action platformer and I used a lot of Melee's mechanics as inspiration when coding the controls and combat. If you like action platformers too, you can read some more about it here: http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=29570
Pretty cool that you worked on that! I actually was going to pick it up today, but GameStop didnt have any... I do want it though. Been a while since a decent GBA game came out (TMNT i think...)
