Pixel Era? You mean 2D? Well back in Game and Watch you couldn't squeeze down a sprite, Infact there was no sprite. They were pictures. How is G&W's crouch lazy? He's a sprite. That's how it worked in the pixel-era
You think he is in-able to bend his legs and shift his back down? You're asking for more polished animations by using a 2D retro character designed with limited animation to look like he should, as an example.
Personally, I think he needs more facial expressions. He clearly doesn't have enough.
Well, Game and Watch is supposed to look clunky and awkward in the first place. You think he is in-able to bend his legs and shift his back down?
Well he might look awkward if redrawn in a different bending position, considering he needs all arms and legs visible to maintain his silhouette. You think he is in-able to bend his legs and shift his back down?
yeah, they could. Pre-render the pose. That's how the games functioned.Well back in Game and Watch you couldn't squeeze down a sprite,
As long as it's 2d, it's a sprite.Infact there was no sprite. They were pictures.
I suppose, lol. It was your only example, so I guess that's why.Okay, Well this clearly a Mr Game and Watch thread to you guys, So you might as well lock this.
Yeh. Although this isn't much about animation, I hated how little recognition they gave to the Wario Land games in Brawl. Hopefully they fix that if Wario is back.I mean, if that's your only example of a lazy animation, of course we're gonna discuss G&W. All of the animations for every other character are fine.
If anything, the only true 'lazy' animation would be how they decided wario in brawl should move like he's 2-dimensional in warioware as opposed to wario land.
Alright then, give an example that isn't Mr Game and Watch.Okay, Well this clearly a Mr Game and Watch thread to you guys, So you might as well lock this.
D:I sure hope they patch up Palutena's face.
Wolf's grounded animations in Brawl all transition into Fox's idle animation, before slouching down back into his own. It makes him look like more of a Fox clone than he really is. Also, Luigi's character model is just Mario with weird animation stretching, so during his aerial item throw animations his face morphs back into Mario's and it looks really messed up.Alright then, give an example that isn't Mr Game and Watch.
This. And maybe Link's too, he looks pretty weird sometimes.I sure hope they patch up Palutena's face.
I was just saying that because he was upset people took this thread to mean a complaint against G&W when that was his only example.Wolf's grounded animations in Brawl all transition into Fox's idle animation, before slouching down back into his own. It makes him look like more of a Fox clone than he really is. There you go. Examples. (Not hating on Brawl here. That game is awesome, just obviously a bit rushed in some aspects.)
Bowser's Side B is identical to his Jab.Alright then, give an example that isn't Mr Game and Watch.
What do you mean lazy? Some examples would be like Mr Game and Watch's Crouch and Down Taunt.
This game seems pretty polished so i really do hope it will look more finished than Brawl or Melee.
Maybe in Brawl or Melee.Bowser's Side B is identical to his Jab.
They already did. Look at her face in Captain Falcon's image gallery. It's totally different from the dead-eyes-blank-stare she had in her reveal.I sure hope they patch up Palutena's face.
So in short: Go big or go home?I'd like to see Smash 4 go one of two ways in regards to Wario's animation...
1) Ditch the Brawl concept and and make him just as fluid as everyone else or...
2) Just go NUTS with it. I don't have a problem with the idea of Wario moving around really jerkily, a la WarioWare, but it just wasn't executed all that well.
So either lose it or go crazy with it.
No, Ganondorf confirmed to be in the next Punch Out game.Little Mac confirmed as falcon clone.
I like how people are so afraid to start brawl/melee flame wars they have to finish half of their sentences with "not hating on brawl".Wolf's grounded animations in Brawl all transition into Fox's idle animation, before slouching down back into his own. That's because that topic is more flammable than a house full of gunpowder in the middle of the forest during the peak of the summer after a 3 year drought.I like how people are so afraid to start brawl/melee flame wars they have to finish half of their sentences with "not hating on brawl".
Im not trying to start anything either, lol. I just think its funny how worried people on this sight are.

I wouldn't really call Wario's walking and moving animation lazy, just a very odd design choice, I get that they're going for a WarioWare kind of feel but ya know, Project M and Smash Flash got it right in giving him a more Wario Land based move set because there's just more they can do with that unless they want to give Wario a new move set where he's pulling inspiration from the mini games in WarioWare.I mean, if that's your only example of a lazy animation, of course we're gonna discuss G&W. All of the animations for every other character are fine.

And hair! Give him a glorious flowing mane! You're asking for more polished animations by using a 2D retro character designed with limited animation to look like he should, as an example.
