Some examples would be like Mr Game and Watch's Crouch and Down Taunt.

This game seems pretty polished so i really do hope it will look more finished than Brawl or Melee.

How is G&W's crouch lazy? He's a sprite. That's how it worked in the pixel-era

Pixel Era? You mean 2D? Well back in Game and Watch you couldn't squeeze down a sprite, Infact there was no sprite. They were pictures.

I just thought it would look like he actually ducking.

You're asking for more polished animations by using a 2D retro character designed with limited animation to look like he should, as an example.

Personally, I think he needs more facial expressions. He clearly doesn't have enough.

Wait, this is talking about Smash 4, right? We haven't even seen Game and Watch's gameplay... yet..?
I mean, the way he was shown during the Pac Man trailer sure didn't look final to me.

You think he is in-able to bend his legs and shift his back down?

Well he might look awkward if redrawn in a different bending position, considering he needs all arms and legs visible to maintain his silhouette.

I mean, if that's your only example of a lazy animation, of course we're gonna discuss G&W. All of the animations for every other character are fine.

If anything, the only true 'lazy' animation would be how they decided wario in brawl should move like he's 2-dimensional in warioware as opposed to wario land.

Yeh. Although this isn't much about animation, I hated how little recognition they gave to the Wario Land games in Brawl. Hopefully they fix that if Wario is back.

Regarding animation, I read a lot of complaints about Palutena; people believe she doesn't exhibit much emotion in her a face or movements compared to Uprising, as if they made her too "graceful" as a goddess.

Alright then, give an example that isn't Mr Game and Watch.
Wolf's grounded animations in Brawl all transition into Fox's idle animation, before slouching down back into his own. It makes him look like more of a Fox clone than he really is. Also, Luigi's character model is just Mario with weird animation stretching, so during his aerial item throw animations his face morphs back into Mario's and it looks really messed up.

There you go. Examples. (Not hating on Brawl here. That game is awesome, just obviously a bit rushed in some aspects.)

I was just saying that because he was upset people took this thread to mean a complaint against G&W when that was his only example.

To me, Bowser's skidding dash was the laziest animation.

And they fixed that.

Starbase, where no turtle has gone before.
Thus far, I have found all the character expressions and animations to be very good.

The only character whose animations I hope they change in the final version is Lucina's. I hope they slightly alter her fighting stance and change her idle poses so that they are different from Marth's. Also, for her counter attack, I hope they give her the stance she used in her game, during the battle animations.

What do you mean lazy?

G&W isn't simply downscaled.

His legs come apart and his arms move a bit when he goes down. His design is already so simple, what do you want him to do when he ducks? His form is always flat and body parts don't overlap since they're all black, so with that in mind, most other poses would look weird.

You stop your accusations of laziness right now young man.

I'd like to see Smash 4 go one of two ways in regards to Wario's animation...

1) Ditch the Brawl concept and and make him just as fluid as everyone else or...

2) Just go NUTS with it. I don't have a problem with the idea of Wario moving around really jerkily, a la WarioWare, but it just wasn't executed all that well.

So either lose it or go crazy with it.

Little Mac confirmed as falcon clone. (Note: Not really. At least, I hope not.)

So in short: Go big or go home?

Not to poop in anyone's cereal but technically (in Smash) Game and Watch has historically been a fully 3D model, he's just designed to look 2D.

I like how people are so afraid to start brawl/melee flame wars they have to finish half of their sentences with "not hating on brawl".

Im not trying to start anything either, lol. I just think its funny how worried people on this sight are.

That's because that topic is more flammable than a house full of gunpowder in the middle of the forest during the peak of the summer after a 3 year drought.

I wouldn't really call Wario's walking and moving animation lazy, just a very odd design choice, I get that they're going for a WarioWare kind of feel but ya know, Project M and Smash Flash got it right in giving him a more Wario Land based move set because there's just more they can do with that unless they want to give Wario a new move set where he's pulling inspiration from the mini games in WarioWare.

Frgh.

Honestly, whenever someone using the word "lazy" to refer to content in a game I just assume they have no idea what they're talking about. Especially when it comes to a game as ridiculously well-polished as this.

You try working overtime under a ****ty salary and extremely strict deadlines someday.

And hair! Give him a glorious flowing mane!

Nah but seriously OP needs to give a better example of lazy animation then a character from an LCD game, were they even sprites back then?
