So, what Fire Emblem characters do you see appearing in Brawl? There are quite a few options, just about all of them with a different reason why they're more important than the other. I'll list a few of the popular ones for you.
Now, how many of them should get in? That's a very tough question. It really depends on the rest of the roster. If it's full of new series than the FE spot will likely be more like 2-3 characters. If it's less series but just as many characters I believe we could see 3-5 characters. Yep, 5. The roster will definately be bigger, and I think Sakurai would try to keep the series more even(so many Mario characters), and since we're having more characters, there could likely be 3-6 representatives for each series.
#1 Marth: He is the main character of the first and third games, he is very popular in Japan, and preferred over Roy by most Smash players.
#2 Roy: Roy is the main character of the sixth game, also the first FE game on the GBA. The game was not very well recieved in Japan, but Roy is a popular character to many players of Smash.
#3 Eliwood/Hector/Lyn: I don't feel like listing them seperately since the three of them virtually fall into the same categories. They were the stars of the seventh game, the first FE game released in the US. Between them, Eliwood is probably the least popular, but is more dominant in the story-line than the other two. Hector is in the middle, he's more popular than Eliwood, around the same popularity with Lyn, but while he has more importance than Lyn he has less than Eliwood. Hector has a unique weapon for him in his favor(an axe)also having a unique personality, while Lyn has the "imma girl" factor going for her, along with having a katana(the nerd's weapon of choice, as is mine). Although these characters seem a good choice because they introduced the US to FE, this game was also not very popular in Japan, so take it for what you will.
#4 Ike: Ah, Ike, probably the most likely canidate. Ike is the main character in the ninth installment of the series, and a recurring character in the tenth game. This character brought the series back to home consoles, along with it slowly bringing back the Japanese fanbase. Considered one of the strongest main characters in FE history(the main characters are often weaker)this makes him very popular among fans. Another thing he has going for him is being the first main character who isn't a noble, but a mercenary in the FE series. He is also liked for having a unique personality among FE main characters. CONFIRMED
#5 Sigurd: Sigurd is the main character of the fourth game which was on the SNES, and the game is considered the most popular by far in the series. This character also uses lances along with swords, so he has a potentially unique moveset for him. The negative against him is easily because he isn't known by the US community, but seeing as how he is in front of every other FE character on Sakurai's popularity poll(IIRC, Ike may have been higher), that might not matter.
#6 Mikaya: She is the main character of the tenth game, the newest game in the series. She is the first main character who specializes in magic, and the second to not be a noble. She is also popular due to "we need more girlz plz!" factor. I don't have a lot of information on the game, so this one's short like the first two. Lucky you.
#7 Ephraim: Due to popular demand(one poster. words are powerful)I will be adding two more characters. The first here is Ephraim. He is one of two main characters on the eight FE game. He is a popular choice among US fans, his game was the second to have a world map, and the first to introduce branched promotions. He is a lot more popular than the other option(Eirika)because most would rather have a lance-user than another sword user, also he was a stronger character in-game. This game is very unpopular in Japan however(I'm not sure exactly why), but his US fanbase may be enough to push him in.
#8 Black Knight: Burger King, Chuck Norris, whatever nickname you have for him, everyone knows that he's one of the toughest bosses in the US games. He appears in game number nine. He is the nemisis of Ike(which is pretty cool considering he's not the primary enemy)and he holds a blessed sword and suit of armor, along with warping powder. Pretty odd stuff for a badguy, eh? This character is popular to many fans of FE, and a pretty popular choice for those who know less about FE. He fills one of the many villain gaps in the Smash series as well. He has a pretty good chance of appearing. One other thing that people think could make him unique is that his sword is a long distance weapon. It can fire shockwaves. Pretty cool, huh?
Now if anyone's interested in discussing, I have nothing to do and will most likely still be here.
And also, these are just a few characters to start discussion, you're welcome to bring any other characters to attention or argue against any of the characters listed above.
PS: If the topic gets big enough I may edit the post to make it prettier and include some pictures.
EDITED: Yes, your one post made me think to edit it, whoever said one person can't make a difference never tried it on a pushover.
EDIT2: I added in how many characters should I think(I can't vouch for everybody) should get in. I thought I should.
