You know that rudder on Pirate Ship? Guess what. It doesn't kill you if you touch it.
You know about swimming? You don't get exhausted as long as you're underwater. You can also influence which way your character swims upward.
You know Pikachu's Quick Attack? You can use it to dive underwater.

What I'm implying is that Pikachu not only finally has a good use for his goggles, but also Pikachu now has an awesome way of avoiding would-be spikers: By Quick-Attacking Underwater. I made this one Ganondorf player SO angry just a few minutes ago on Wi-Fi, by avoiding his Dair repeatedly. I stayed in the water and QA'd away from each of his attempts to spike me until I accidently double input'd a QA into the bottom of the boat. and eventually got killed by that background cannon-firing thing (which I also managed to avoid nicely)

After a bit of testing, I found a sweetspot on the rudder of Pirate Ship in which your character is blocked by it and constantly attempts to swim upwards. No character can get to the spot without using a "Dive" attack, and the only projectiles that can even have a chance of getting down there are Din's Fire, PK Thunders, and Pikachu's Thunderjolt (AFAIK). Nice, eh?

Even more discoveries about Diving: When the Pirate Ship crashes onto the rock, you can dive underneath it and be safe from pretty much ANY attack, I think. Even crazier is that you can jump out of the water and THROUGH the rock to attack anyone on it!

I have yet to try it on Isle Delfino, (It's 1 AM or so right now) but overall, I think this could turn into something wonderful for Pikachu, perhaps so for other characters that can dive as well (Falcon: Down+B, but don't kill yourself, ZSS, Sonic, TL, and G&W: Dair, Wolf: Up+B, and several others I haven't messed with yet)

this is very interesting. pika would be the best character to manipulate positions in the water though. very light with a very directable (QA) move.

sheite son, that's awesome, I will have to try this out, do you QA into the water, or once you're in it? I definitely think this can go somewhere!

You have to QA while swimming, not when you're about to hit the water. There's a bit of a timing window involved, too. If you hold up and delay in pressing B, you'll just jump out of the water and land back in it. Even with Tap Jump off, you still jump out of the water if you hold up, do make sure to press Up+B in a decent timeframe. It's not that hard; in fact, I can pull it off on 1.5x regular speed.

no the point is that the swimming up part does not count towards the drown limit. and if you are stuc/held under water, you are constantly swimming upward and cant drown.

ewwww a way for pika to camp underwater? this makes me sad. this shouldnt ever be used unless it is necessary.
That's like saying he should never crawl unless it is necessary. It doesn't extend the range of an attack, you can't combo from it, hell, you can't even ATTACK while underwater. But, it at least turns Pirate Ship into a better stage for Pika. Same for parts of Isle Delfino. (despite the water being a lot clearer)

i think its awesome that pikachu can learn dive, come on, why not use this? i have a feeling if we get enough people to do, we can get it banned, like MK's IDC!

i I am just against the use of any stalling tactic. unless your opponent is stalling first, then by all means hide under there and laugh.
Enjoy your spike-induced deaths, then. Really, it's more for evasion than stalling.

I lol'd, but I don't really think it's as useful as IDC. Many characters can dive (Falcon, Ganon, Yoshi, ZSS, Wolf, Sonic, Toon Link, G&W, Sheik (I think. Can't remember ATM. Also, lol, double parentheses)) and there is no stage with a consistent supply of water around (aside from Jungle Japes, but it's suicidal at that point. Seriously, who dives in ****ING RAPIDS?!) Pirate Ship comes closest, but the Tornado can still stop you.

well if you can get under the rock once the ship crashes and still be able to attack, it's not much of stalling as it is being very very cheap
lol
i definitely want to go try this out now

For god's sake, it's evasion, not stalling! If you want to be an *** and swim to that aforementioned sweetspot, be my guest, but expect a thunderjolt of disapproval out of me that may knock you into the actual boat and kill you.

Could anyone post a video of the character constantly attempting to swim upwards at that sweetspot? Also, some people might just want a video of the Pika Dive in action. I'm just throwing this out there, even though it's not that hard to do.

Eh. When I get the chance. I have a replay, I just need some time to get access to my dad's video capture equipment.
