I started playing as Snake a few weeks ago, and he's easily the most fun character in the roster to play as. Thing is, though, I've printed out and gone over several guides, have mortarsliding and various other techs down, yadda yadda, blah blah blah.

I thought I was pretty good.

Here's the thing, though - I'm getting beaten waaaay too often by my brother. My brother, who doesn't even know what tech means. My bro, who's never read a character guide in his life. I mean, I'm still beating him more often than he's beating me, but the fact that he's even beating me in the first place - with characters like Yoshi and Captain Falcon, no less - leads me to believe that I'm not quite good enough to perform well at tournaments just yet.

I need to improve these areas -

- Chasing after grabs. I'm good with getting attacks in after an upwards throw (if % low then I'll do utilt once or twice if it's already depreciated, otherwise shorthop and uair, and if % is high, as they come down I shorthop twice and uair, comes out very quickly and before an opponent can use dair to hit), but other throws I have difficulty with.

- Edgeguarding. I usually just mortarspam, which doesn't work too well. I can edgehug too but that just ain't enough.

- Plenty of other areas that I'd need to post videos of for you to see them.

I'll post a couple of videos ASAP (don't have a capture card so I'll just record to DVD, rip, and upload to Youtube), but until then, please give me random tips for playing as Snake, and some tips for the stuff I listed.

Keep cool under pressure.

I have a brother and it used to be that he always beats me because he always talks **** to me and intimidates me that way. After I went to a tournament with him and showed my skill as well as see his skill I realized that I just have stay calm, or think about something else so I can win. He hasn't won a game against me since.

My guess is you're intimidated by you're brother.

Stop thinking about techs and the like and just play normally. Maybe you'l do better.

A lot of people overemphasize spamming the more complicated techniques for no real reason. I've had Snakes mortarslide right into me from across the stage, so I just forward smash them away. I see Diddys using mindless glide tosses to slip me up, but I just shield and grab 'em until he approaches.

Just use your head. :O
