I need conformation...secret or NOT?!

Okay, I've read a lot of crap about this and I'm really...really...REALLY tired of seeing people post "oh no snake is secret" or "no everyone announced are starters..." can someone please clarify? Has Sakurai said anything about this? Maybe some interview proves that these tall tales can be proved true or false? Personally I doubt that he'd announce secret characters....I don't think Sakurai would EVER EVER NEVER EVER EVER spoil a game as great as this for us...I mean King Dedede was like the 4th last veteran and he's in THE FIRST EVENT MATCH OF THE GAME...taht's why I could think taht some of this is BS...please tell me if the announced characters are starters or not I NEED TO KNOW AND I WANT EVIDENCE.

He has had in the past a plan to have 3rd party characters be secret. Whether that plan was kept is unknown.

It's more then likely that Snake and Sonic are unlockable characters.

we do not know! people are just speculating on who is starting and who's not! the dojo has not stated that at all and we probably wont know until brawl comes out!
my guess is all the characters in the japanese commercials are confirmed as starters, as well as the characters on the cover of the game. that's the best speculation we have in my opinion.

Go read the Samurai Panda translation thread. It's in there about half way down that 3rd parties should be secret characters.

Sakurai at one time said that all 3rd parties would be unlockable. But some people(me included) have completely thrown that statement out of the window by now. Others still believe this, however.

Now about the characters on the dojo being starters, it's not known. Many people came to a conclusion that Dojo-featured characters would be starters. But after Sakurai himself stated that secret characters and what not would get out either way due to the prevelance of the internet, I don't see why people still follow this. He will, or already has, revealed hidden characters on the Dojo.

Sakurai's stated that he wants to reveal characters first... Somewhat. He was like "The characters will get revealed by someone, so... I guess I'll reveal them." Paraphrasing, check SamuraiPanda's translation thread. It'll give insight. I think he's already revealed secret characters.

Sakurai: Load the game disc to unlock all 3rd party characters.

Sakurai did mention something about it, but it hasn't been hard confirmed. I don't remember his phrasing but he basically commented that it might be appropriate for third party characters to be unlockable, in his typically ambiguous way. We can't say for 100% certain that he's really going to do it, or that he hasn't changed his mind. It's just something we feel is reasonably likely.
