my friend that always wants to marth ditto me. i am more technical than him and have my combos down. the problem is that he takes full advantage of is edge guarding. he spams fsmash until i am off stage, when i get off stage he knows the perfect distance where he can fsamsh me if i jump off the ledge to the stage (holding on the ledge and pressing y), slow get up, and attack. when i roll i just get fsmashed the other way. any tips on getting back on? or ways to approach a fsmash spamming marth?

If your only goal is to get past Fsmash, then:
Short term solution ideas.
-Wait. For someone giving out Fsmashs all day I bet they are not well thought out and simply waiting until s/he throws one out and punishing accordingly.
-Counter. Likewise, for someone throwing out Fsmash without cause (as you seem to make it out) counter gives you the opportunity to make such a hard read. While a poor long term gameplan it gives you a potential solution.
I noticed you only mentioned the standard get off the ledge options for all characters. Pressing L/R, A/B, Y/X. These options are slow and do not immediately help counter your situation on an opponent's mistakes. Let go of ledge, 2nd jump back on wavedash in or use Fair. However, this should be done after seeing said person fsmash and whiff.
