Hi,

I decided to try getting some help with Smash Bros. It seems I'm really bad at this, and I have no idea why. I play online, and get crushed every time.

Nearly every match, the following occurs:
1) I am trapped between two players that bounce me back and forth. (Then take turns knocking me out.)
2) All the opponents focus on me. (Ignoring each other in favor of attacking me.)
3) I get knocked away, and then they edge-guard to keep me from returning.
4) No one will attack unless I'm in a position that prevents me from defending myself.
5) Any attack I make is dodged or blocked.
6) I get frustrated and stop trying. Then I get disconnected. Then I have to wait for several minutes. (It's up to 4 minutes now.)
7) The wait for a match has gotten really long. I think the matchmaker is punishing me for the disconnects.

My records indicate that I have 86 battles. I've won only 8. I have 50 last-place finishes.

I thought this was supposed to be the "casual friendly" fighting game. This does not appear to be the case. This seems just as impossibly difficult as every other fighting game I've played. Everyone is really good and exploits everything to maximum benefit.

I don't understand how I can be this bad, or how everyone can be so good. It makes no sense to me.

Of course, this is probably like every other fighting game community. I'll get trolled and flamed until I leave. I shouldn't post this. What am I doing here? I just need to give up fighting games. It's so ridiculous.

Naaah man, it's fine we all have our bad times here in the smash community.
If you're playing For Glory, usually the players there are try-hards. It's for people that actually play it for Win Ratio and stuff. Now if you wanna have a nice fun casual time, you should definitely do For-Fun.

This game is a bit easier to get into in the beginning for most fighting games, and unlike them you can get some enjoyment out of not playing them seriously.

If you wanna try to "git gud" against For Glory guys, you should try to shield and stuff more. Also, FFA isn't exactly a good test of skill anyways lol.

I'm gonna say your case is slightly like mine. But i'm on 3DS. my record? I have a 23.??% (yes .?? because it changes gradually) of winning rate. I have more than 1800 battles in glory of which I barely have won 400 My record is way worse than you and I once sunk as low as 11% win ratio. That was 1 out of 10 battles won. I'm still playing and I have lots of fun and learned a lot of techniques yet I've been for months on the 23% Not everyone is good at smash. I say try a little harder. Please don't quit Smash. It may be hard but it takes time. Longer for some of us.

Welcome to Smashboards! I'd suggest playing For Fun if you're into free-for-all matches and just want to have a good time. I doubt you are bad at this game, it just takes practice in order to get better. Earlier in January, I stopped playing For Glory largely because I got sick of those players doing cheap tactics and wanted to do something different anyway.

My win ratio is approximately 57.xx% on 3DS. I haven't gone online as much in the Wii U side of things. You came to the right place if you want to get better at Smash Bros..
