After watching The Smash Brothers series I was exposed for the first time to the competitive side of Smash. After a while of playing Melee again I realized how much better the game is now that I'm older and I can be better at it. I don't want this to be just me copy/pasting my profile, so I'll stop there. Any questions or welcoming gestures are welcome.

I'm gonna love it here!

Shout-out to your enthusiasm because you should and will love it here

It's a pleasure to have you! Glad to hear you have rekindled your desire to play Smash Bros.

Welcome to SWF Dizzy! Glad to hear you're planning to get into Melee. It's actually a great time to start playing again.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Enjoy your stay and remember to praise our lord and savior, Emperor Superman.

Thanks guys! Maybe I could get the name of a few low tier tournaments that I can go to around Dutchess County? Or is there no such thing as "low tier"? I'd love to start getting money from it, however small the amount.

Well, if you're interested, check around the Regional Zones and Tournament Listings forums to see what's going on. I don't believe Low-Tier tournaments are common...then again, not exactly sure what you mean by "Low-Tier". Low-Tier characters only? Low-Tier as in nothing major/regional, but just a simple local tourney?

But regardless, you can see what's going on in your area with the forums I linked you to. Hope that helps.

Thanks, that'll help a lot. I mean low tier as in skillful play. I don't wanna face Mew2King in my first tournament, you know?
Ha ha, understood. Would be quite the experience though

But as one final note: When it comes to your first tournament, think about it as your first step into the competitive side of the community. Winning is great, but don't expect to bring home the gold. It's more so about the experience, and experience will take you a long way. Hope you can find something to attend nearby. Power to ya.

Thanks! I never get too competitive anyway, and I play League of Legends. I know I'll start out as being pretty bad compared to everyone else there, but I'll see how tournaments go, learn the rules, watch the better players, and enjoy it. By money I just meant a $20 money match after a friendly or something.
I think I already know where I'll go first. There's not anything very close to me but I'll be in Baltimore for the first week of August and I might check out Xanadu. Hmmm...I could even host a get together for new players.

Ah! Well, that works too. In any case, as long as you're having fun, that's all that matters.

You too. I'd love to meet everyone here and play with them. Maybe someday I can meet Ken-Sama :joyful:
Ha ha, I see you're definitely a Ken fan. Was he the first player you stared watching? Liked him after watching him in the documentary?

Yep, I loved him in the documentary. He also plays my favorite character so well it's scary. /)o3o(\ Admittedly I never played any Fire Emblem games, but Marth is just too suave and I play him the easiest in Melee. Most of the other characters make me think too much, Marth is really straightforward and skill based in my opinion unlike characters like Kirby, Pikachu, Fox...I'd recommend anyone to start playing with Marth, he's just so damn intuitive.

He has a simple moveset, it just takes a master to use him effectively at high-top level play. He's basically Mr. Fundamentals.
