I got the Full Set. Can I play online?

I didn't get the WiFi Safe Set. Is there anything I need to download to play online?

The wifi set is necessary to play online, as the full set desyncs when playing online due to certain codes. (I believe it involved Light Shield Press or something).

The only way to play online with a full set is over Netplay (homebrew full set). For wifi the wifi safe set is required. There are some detrimental variations but they're required to prevent desyncs, as Xermo mentioned.

Yeah just replace the entire thing with the Wifi-Safe set. PMBR says eventually you'll be able to swap between the two sets via the launcher. However with Nintendo's Wifi shutting down on May 20th, I doubt they're going to continue with that.

Sure do wish there was a way to create a dedicated server for Project M.
Nintendo doesn't know what they're doing by closing down the wi-fi service...

If you have a decent computer then play on Netplay. It's far better than Wifi ever was anyways..
