a couple of months ago, i decided to draw the people that are important to me. It all started with my favorite person in the world. her and i had a scary amount of things in common, so when i heard she was moving, i nearly cried. but since theres no crying in baseball, i sucked it up, and tried to be close to her as much as i can. Before we went separate ways, she invited me to her wedding. I probably should of mentioned that she is 10 years older than me, but pros dont use backspace. anyway, after i was invited, she came to visit me maybe a month later to ensure that im still invited to her wedding. Unfortunately, i couldnt make it to her wedding so i went into some kind of deep depression. I let time cast level 10 heal, but it quickly ran out of SP, so it took quite a while for me to get back to normal. After maybe 5 months(?) i decided to draw a portrait of her. I must say that it came out perfectly, and with its perfection, i realized i should do this with the other important people in my life. So i began the "Real Hero's" portrait project.
Here are the ones ive completed.

Original
Portrait
My good friend joey. funniest guy youll ever meet.

Original
Portrait
This one actually looks better in person. If you were to compare the original and my portrait, they are totally identical.

Portrait
This person means a lot to me. not as much as my favorite of course. also this isnt one of my better ones. dont know why o_O

Portrait
Us two are to much alike. it scares the both of us
(my favorite person will not be displayed over the internets keke ^_^. im just to lazy to take a picture of it o_O)

I also worked on other people, but im not sure what to call them.
Kurt Vonnegut
Jeanine Garofalo
Otis Redding
The Sound Providers
George Carlin Project for art class.

There is still more to come, but ive been so busy with school it might take a while. Feel free to critique. I do not claim to be an artist. That is all....for now. O_O

edit: blahim! im fairly new to the artwork emporium. hello artwork emporium !

I'm sorry nobody has commented on your artwork yet :<

Anyway:

Your anatomy needs a lot of work. Practice drawing skulls before you move on to heads and complex things of that nature. Practice silhouettes as well. By that I mean, just practice blocking in the person as if they were a shadow--nothing but black. This will help you better understand the natural contours of the person or thing you're drawing.

Also, remember, eyes are "one eye apart", in MOST cases. Lips end right at the inside-corners of the eye (the ones closest to the bridge of the nose) Make little measurements for yourself, mentally, to help judge how far the eyes are from the tip of the nose, the nose is from the sides of the face, the lips are to the corners of the eyes, etc.

Keep it up!! Practice makes perfect :) and thank you for sharing your artwork.

You asked for critique, and what's the point in putting this up if you don't actually want advice?

Anyway, here's my advice, whether you want it or not. You don't seem to be drawing what you see, instead you're drawing what you think you should see. For the second portrait, in the reference image, can you actually see black lines around all of her teeth? No, it's all practically one big mass of white...instead of drawing what you think should be there, like the eyes, the nose, the lips, the teeth etc, just draw what you see, draw the forms and shapes, the lights and the darks, don't even think of it as a face, but as a series of shapes.

Fdv, are you studying art somewhere? Excellent advice.

Nefarious: What's the point of posting then, if you're not interested in a critique? You clearly wanted people to look at your pictures, and made an extra effort with your title.

Anyway, even if drawing IS just a hobby for you, it's always good to practice and get better. You won't get better if you aren't open to learning.

Also, if you're drawing from reference/photographs, it may help you to draw upside-down. By that, I mean turn the photo or image upside-down and then draw it that way. When you're done, flip your image over and you should have a much better replica of what you were going for. This works because, as Fdv said, when you're drawing what you think should be there, rather than what IS there, the image suffers. When you're drawing something that's been flipped upside-down, you can focus on the contours and shapes in a more abstract way.

ok maybe i mixed up my words a little. i dont mind being critiqued and all that good stuff, but im pretty sure im always going to draw the way i do, no matter what advice i get. i DONT want to improve on this, because its not something im particularly interested in. i do this because i thought it was a nice way to display my affection for my close friends. im sure if i wrote countless pages about someone, they would stop reading after the first 3 pages. with a picture, i can show it to someone and be done with it.

wait. i didnt ask to be critiqued. i said feel free to. wtf lol.

whatever. i was going back to the past and had to post this thread. dont even care about it now.

and just to make sure
Drawing is NOT part of my hobbies. i do NOT want to get better at drawing.
Critiques and advice ARE welcome, but will most likely be ignored.
my girl wants to party all the time....ALL the time....

I'm currently character animator at a video game studio, so yeah, I have studied art a bit I guess. But I mostly learned that kind of stuff from the other traditional artists around me.
