I don't ever expect it, but sometimes I sure wish sheik's attacks showed her using her knife

Just because how cool would that be? A knife makes a lot of sense for her combat style, and I feel like it would do a lot to show that she really is a properly armed/equipped fighter/ninja/whatever-she-is. I love the aesthetic of her being a knife fighter as implied by her wearing it on her hips, but I sure wish they'd show it.

I'd be surprised if they ever did it, but sometimes for my own sake I pretend that her fair, jabs, dash attack, and usmash--basically all the slicing hand attacks--all use her knife.

Nothing too important to see here; just being a nerd.

Imo Sheik has some other design flaws... first off, the only thing she actually does in OoT is to play... Lyra.... waaait. Why not even in a taunt? :/

To the knife, i dont think it fits too well (especially if it was only one move). Drawing and then putting the blade away again is not really efficient, so other then a Smash i really can't see it looking good. Especially since Sheik is a martial art fighter, so there no need for a sword and it again does not seem to fit. I mean, she can cut with her hands, why would she need one then?

Another design issue I have is the fact that Sheik is wearing Chainmail.. I mean seriously, you know how heavy that is? And its just impossible to move the way Sheik does while wearing Chainmail armour. Yes I know, magic etc but still. In addition, wrapping yourself in bandages isn't gonna help your movement either.

Yes, but -why- can she slash with her hands? Wouldn't it make more sense if she were using the knife? Knives and martial arts go well together. As for pulling it out and putting it away, I'd be fine if she just always had it out.

I agree with the chainmail though. Not only is it heavy, it does not at all bespeak stealth, which seems awfully important to sheik. Sometimes I pretend it's just a silk weave or something, which would make more sense...But it's clearly chainmail.

And where -is- the lyre?

Well it is possible to break bricks (and other stuff as well) with bare hands, so why not inflict some damage to your opponent? So maybe think of it as not cutting the skin but rather breaking the bones under it.

About her knive... Having it out always? Impossible. Sheik needs both hands for every single attack and almost every move she does (if not active than passive, for balancing, covering her landings and so on). You cannot move like this while holding a sharp blade. If you dont believe me try doing a backflip... or even better do parcour with a knive in your hand... or better don't.
It would be cool to use it maybe for the smash attacks, I'm thinking of something like Snakes P:M F-smash (he uses a blade there).
Knives and Martial Arts do not go together well... at least not the kind of martial Art sheik is doing (and most other commonly known martial arts...)

Mm--My hands-on experience with knives is that they don't restrict motion or affect balance as much as I think what you said suggests, though certainly having an occupied hand affects parkour a lot. I also have the experience that knives and martial arts go fine together (though respect needs to be paid to how an occupied hand affects grappling--I would say it changes it rather than eliminates it, knives are very good grappling weapons) but I don't mean to turn that in to a big argument.

What if she took it out and put it away for things, like link's shield?

Thats what I was suggesting, but the other way around, pulling it out only when its needed (kinda like links bow maybe...). Since I actually own a back sheath such as the one Sheik has (custom made, I've always been a big fan of Sheiks "knive" actually) I can tell that you can pull out and put back the Knive rather quickly... you just have to watch out not to stab yourself... I was lucky enough to only ruin a T-shirt...

About the martial arts.. of course its possible to combine bare hand and knive combat, but it would change Sheiks complete moveset to a totally different style. About the balance, the biggest issue here is probably to not cut yourself and if you watch Sheik closely, she throws her limbs all around. So again, complete moveset change.

2 other things I noticed... where does she pull out the needles and Nades... and where are the needles going after being charged? And why are they blunt? (After you hit an opponent they fall to the ground... that makes no sense)
2nd, if you watch the Nade animation closely, she does a complete 360, and the string of the nade actually passes trough her body... so stupid.

She must be so flexible she can PASS THROUGH SOLID OBJECTS. Whoaaaa. (No, but you're right, it's silly. Even if she should be pirouetting while throwing grenades, which she shouldn't be, the string you'd think should like go over her head or something if she wants to keep it straight.)

I never thought about the needles bouncing off enemies. You make a valid point. Especially considering they -do- stick in to the ground. It'd be neat if sheik was modeled with like pouches and stuff to answer the questions of where the needles and grenades belong. I always think pouches look great in general. Yes, sheik would probably have to be somewhat more economical with the range of motion especially of her arms when she had a knife out. I suppose you're right that could take more remodeling than just slapping a knife in there. Still, she does -carry- that knife (and use it in hyrule warriors), so I'm sure we can basically understand her as one that favors a knife -when- she chooses to use a melee weapon.

I like to think in smash 4 of her cutting her burst grenade string with her knife.

Of course it doesnt show it but...still. Makes it seem less out of place....right....RIGHT?

This is just speculation, but it could be that Nintendo didn't want to have the ESRB raise the rating of Smash Bros any more than it currently is. It's the same deal with how Snake didn't use any guns in Brawl, instead using weapons that created goofy explosions. I know there are tons of swordfighters in this game, but it's easy to see that they're huge and of a fantastical nature, not to mention the fact that no one uses swords anymore. But if we see Sheik slashing with a tiny little knife, akin to knives that are used today, the ESRB may have to raise that rating a little in the hope that little kids playing the game won't try to reenact their favorite hyrulean ninja at home.

I kind of also see Sheik's 'chainmail' as net clothing instead. It's a pretty popular aesthetic among the designs of ninja characters. But yea, I wish Sheik used the knife as well ;_;

Imagine how brutal it would be if her pumble was her stabbing with the knife lol.

I agree with everything about this post. I like imagining it's some kind of mesh too...and it probably -is- the ESRB rating that has her wearing a knife and slashing with her hands, and not slashing with the knife. It's kind of satisfying to my imagination, like...We adults know. We know she's using the knife. Because it's cartoony like you said we see her "slashing with her hands", but she's got that knife, and it's like...winkkk.
