I can not get the pattern for dance trotting down.

It is exceedingly hard to do if you don't have a very good grip on your control stick. Can you Foxtrot reliably? If you know the timing for the foxtrot, that's step one. Basically, just do a foxtrot, then immediately smash the stick in the other direction, and repeat.

I honestly can't even do it on command, so don't beat yourself up. Takes a lot of practice. The muscles in your thumb aren't designed to work that way.
The flicking you have to do is EXTREMELY quick. Like, same frame quick. Faster than a perfect pivot, I think.

I've been trying to learn as well, and I haven't had the best of luck. What exactly is the input? I've been using Right > Right > Left > Left ... Is this right or what?
