I understand the reason for the delay may have been to make sure enough copies were produced for the launch in each country. I agree with the descision to delay the game. I'd rather have the game on release than wait for the next shipment. What I DON'T quite understand is why Nintendo would be so unprofessional to actually throw out a release date without taking mass production/ distribution time into consideration. It's honestly so stupid I can't believe it.

Developers always lie, and like you said, it makes no sense, so it must be something else.

Ive said it before and Ill say it again. Wishful thinking on the part of Nintendo. They wanted the game out ASAP to boost Wii sales and fatten their profit margin. Sakurai on the other hand wanted to put out the best game possible and took his sweet time about it. Im sure the Nintendo execs were pissed as hell, but what can they do? Sakurai is Brawl. Its not like they could just fire him. So what Nintendo hoped would be a Dec American release got moved back three months, and even in Japan they had a minor setback. But why fret? Look at all the goodies we are getting in return for having to wait.

THANK YOU! Someone who agrees with me! I always have the feeling that I'm the only one who's positive on Brawl...

The real sour thing about the Release date changes, are how much longer must us Europeans wait, before we actually get a date. Im thinking of all of those who waits for a PAL verson of the game, i actually bought ntsc wii and brawl which will ship once brawl is released in North america.

I agree fully on that, the thing is, a 1 week delay in Japan won't get you much, and the translating is probably done as the game is made, so I don't think it's the translation.

Personally I think it COULD be worry of shortages. Wii stock is very limited in US and Europe, but fine in Japan (I think) so this extra week is to make more DVD copies (after all, there weren't enough DVDs of Mario Galaxy...) and when you take into consideration what a game developer can do with 1 week... it's not much is it? If anything. This is why I think it's about shortages. Shortages gives Nintendo bad press, so whether you care about being able to wait for the next shipment, Nintendo do care, and they want enough copies to AT LEAST support the pre-orders (selling out on pre-orders is a bit of a problem...)

This is why they need more time in US, and there is a bit of a "game drought" for Wii at the moment (in US at least), so sales should slow down in the run up to Brawl and Mario Kart, before Nintendo release them and the selling goes crazy again. I'm hoping this delay will include a few tweaks and maybe character balancing, but there has been no announcement of going gold so who knows.

Yeah I too can see that there are shortages. But that is because development of the game took longer than expected. After all you cant just start printing out copies of a game that is not yet completed. So that like everything else got pushed back. The only thing that went ahead as scheduled was the advertsing campaign. And that cost Nintendo a lot of face. I mean they changed the dates on the commercials after they already started airing. One day they said the 24th, the next the 31st. Thats a big screw up. If only the company had been more patient with Sakurai they would have saved themselves and fans a lot of heartache.

Yeah, but usually it's not uncommon for a game to go gold only a week or even less before release, it's probably because Nintendo realised they hadn't printed enough copies for Galaxy, not enough to meet demand, or Metroid in the west.

Otherwise I can't understand this huge delay (well... only a month) in the US, I think that's more to do with Wii shortages than game shortages.

As for the adverts, it's sorta like here in UK where Nintendo advertised Phantom Hourglass and the new Silver DSL in the same ad, the Silver DS' release date was a week before PH, and the release date shown on the advert was the Silver DSL's, when Zelda: PH was released a week later.

Everyone thought PH had been released on the same week as the Silver DSL  eventually they changed the advert with both release dates though.
