HYRULE CIVIL WAR
—YEAR ONE—
▲ ▲ ▲

I. Overview

  • In Hyrule Civil War, there are three opposing factions, each with different preset motives that are further defined by the players throughout the course of the game. Players will be assigned to one of these three factions, communicating with one another within the private quarters of a corresponding social group. These groups will not be open to the public and will be invite only. The factions are as follows:
    1. The Hyruto Republic (THR)
    2. Gerudo Trading Company (GTC)
    3. Megaton Preservation Alliance (MPA)
  • SkylerOcon, Yink, and I will act as "the postmen" in this instance of Hyrule, reporting vaguely on the goings-on behind each faction in a weekly newspaper available to all resident Hyruleans. This thread will be the main hub for our news postings, and while it will be locked, we'll continue to update it with new posts, so be sure to check in at least once a week. The newspaper issues will provide you with information regarding your opposing factions. If you do not read the news, you'll likely fall behind.

II. How To Play
  • This game is played as a sort of "intellectual role-playing political simulator". In your faction's respective social group, you'll discuss ideas regarding how to deal with the other two opposing actions. Imagine you're in a world history class in school and your instructor has split the class up into three groups. Each group controls a piece of land and has an agenda that conflicts with the motives of the other two groups. At the end of class, each group presents their strategies regarding whatever's at stake to the instructor and s/he analyzes what would logically happen if all three factions actually underwent such plans. We, the postmen, will report on your political and/or militaristic plans in this thread. This game is based on theory. It's a simulation using Zelda lore to see how you can cooperate as a fictional nation of people. We aim to see your factions grow, to see you take initiative on behalf of your agenda, and to
  • You are given much freedom, but there are three basic rules to follow:
    1. Follow the core premise of your faction as described in the social group.
    2. A formal, written description of what your group plans to do must be sent in to one of the three GMs and posted as a Discussion in your respective faction's social group.
    3. All players must check this thread daily for updates, though daily updates are not guaranteed.
Hylian Spice is the global currency in Hyrule Civil War. HCW runs via a unique investment system where every territory any of the groups own has three spheres of living - Military, Culture, and Government. All three of these are directly related - if an area with a high Culture value is conquered by one of the other factions, the people of the area will revolt and reinstate the original rulers. However, if the attacking faction invests enough into the Government of their newly captured area, they could quell the rebellion - that's also not to say that the rebellion might be crushed via militaristic force either!

Hylian Spice can also be traded, as you would expect. Factions can trade this for anything they want. In the end, it's up to the players. If an area with a high culture value borders an opposing area with a low culture value, the culture from the higher valued area may spread to the lower valued, causing the people to rebel and join the higher-valued area's country!

As for further explanation as to how the three spheres can effect each other, look no further! If an area with a high culture value borders an opposing area with a low culture value, the culture from the higher valued area may spread to the lower valued, causing the people to rebel and join the higher-valued area's country! Additionally, Government propoganda may be so strong (read: incredibly strong) in one area, that no amount of militaristic conquest could ever quell a rebellion - a high culture value may be needed to influence the people to join your country!

Conquest
• During a military conquest, an invasion may be successfully overturned by a strong culture value or a highly strong government value in the attacked area. Immediately investing spice into government or culture once you successfully invade an area may be wise. If an area is taken via militaristic conquest, the area immediately loses all invested spice value.

• During a cultural renaissance, Militaristic oppression and good Government propaganda may cause the renaissance to lose steam before completely taking off an causing an area to switch sides. Once again, trying to counterbalance against the opposing teams military or government strength may be a good idea. Please note, however, that if your team does manage to cause an area to convert due to culture, that all invested spice remains in the area, which will greatly help your team.

• During a Diplomatic Conversion, as expected, strong culture and military can prevent the people from voting to join an opposing state. *Attempting to counterbalance your culture and military - once again - is a good way to prevent an opponent from retaking an area done in by diplomatic conversion. Areas taken via Diplomatic Conversion retain half of their total spice value.

III. Registration
  • In order to participate in the events, you must take the Hyrule Civil War Faction Placement Test (below) to qualify for placement into your best fit faction. The placement test is designed specifically to cater to different personality types, so the faction you end up in will hopefully feel like a natural pairing. Those that take the test seriously may find their comrades to share similar outlooks on the situation(s) at hand.
  • There will be multiple registration periods throughout the course of the game. Each registration period will last up to 7 days, with the initial period lasting the full length of the week. Later registration periods may end sooner if the influx of new participants comes to an obvious halt, merely stalling the progression of the game if we were to keep registration open for an entire week.
  • To register, send a PM to either SkylerOcon, Yink, or myself with the test answered. Here is an example test answer sheet:
    1. a
    2. b

The Hyrule Times: Issue I

The Hyrule Times

~ Issue I ~

"...Inside sources suggest that our current standing government has been drawing up plans for a large structure. We can't confirm exactly what its purpose is, but it looks as if the Hyruto Republic is attempting to carry on as normal, despite the hard times.

It looks as if the Megaton Preservation Alliance is attempting to spread its influence into previously neutral lands - it may be a few days until we see if this succeeds or not. Though the group is normally peaceful, given the current state of Hyrule, some do believe that they may be building up their military.

The Gerudo Trading Company, according to a Company Insider, is looking into a way to convert several neutral lands to their side. How and in what directions they'll expand we aren't sure. The expansion methodology could be anything from propaganda to a militaristic show of force, as of now...

Also, a renegade member of the Hyruto Republic has split from his people, attempting to form a new faction in the Southern Hyrule region called the "Lost Leaf Legion". His motives and whether or not he has any support are as of yet unknown.

As it currently stands, it looks as if the Gerudo Trading Company and the Hyruto Republic may go to war at Zora's River. Might we see our first battle soon?"
