Note: This tournament will not effect our Wii U Rankings

The Stagelist:
  • Luigi's Mansion
  • Norfair
  • Mario Circuit (Wii U)
  • Mushroom Kingdom U
  • Port Town Aero Dive
  • Wii Fit Studio
  • Windy Hill Zone
Players will strike in a 1-2-2-1 order. There will be no stage bans during the counterpick process. Players may not play on the same stage during a single match under any circumstances.

If any stage causes particular issues during the Swiss rounds, it may be removed before the top cut bracket.

We encourage players to outright pick any stages they think are broken and abuse them as much as possible. We want to know if these stages actually work, so by all means play as "cheap" as you can and try to win.

Note: The Stagelist has had changes since the original post due to feedback from other Tournament Organizers who hosted other events with certain stages legal. Please check the list to be sure you know the legal stages!

/u/SmashCapps will provide reasoning for why each stage was chosen in particular below.

For those interested, there are stage guides that you can study to learn more about almost every stage on this list to be prepared for the tournament. We have provided links for you here:

Luigi's Mansion - Norfair - Mario Circuit (Wii U) - Mushroom Kingdom U - Windy Hill Zone
Prizes

1st Place: An Amiibo, A Wii U Gamepad Skin, and a Wii U Rainbow Stylus Set (to match your new skin!)

2nd Place: A Wii U Gamepad Skin, and a Wii U Rainbow Stylus Set (to match your new skin!)

3rd Place: A month of reddit gold!

We want to put out a special thanks to DecalGirl who has given Hypest a permanent discount on their products for use in prizes for future events. Why not go on Twitter and thank them for being awesome!

However, you do not have to win the tournament to get a prize. We also will have this survey that all tournament goers can fill out. If you fill out the survey, you will be put into a random drawing to win a month of Reddit Gold. You can see the survey here

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!

We will also be hosting a Stage Debate Topic where we will discuss all of the stages used here as well as all other common counterpicks to get people's thoughts on them. The user who we deem provided the most to the discussion will also receive a month of Reddit Gold

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE

We want to keep you guys connected to us on social media. So we have a few goals for you guys:

If we hit Two Goals another chance at Reddit Gold will be added to survey takers. If we hit all four goals another chance at Reddit Gold will be added to the debate thread

This will require an address to send you the physical prizes. If you are uncomfortable giving us that, we can have it sent directly to your local post office for pickup. If that still worries you, we can exchange the physical prizes for a Nintendo E-Card equal to the value of the prizes.

With so many chances to win, you guys need to enter!

Also, if you haven't heard of us yet, let us introduce you to the official /r/smashbros tournament team: Hypest!

Facebook - Twitter - Youtube - Twitch

Keep up with us using social media for more details and exciting content about events and to watch footage of all of the events we can stream!

You can also find all of our upcoming events on our Event Calendar. We also have rankings for each game we host on our Rankings Page so check them out!.

It means a LOT to us that you all keep frequenting our events. We apologize again for the previous issues on Challonge. Hopefully we can keep providing exciting events for you all and keep growing in the future.

So, are you ready to test some stages?!?

That I shall. Alright everyone, you've probably seen the Wii U Stage Legality Poll that was linked above. We used the data from this along with some discussion on Smashboards to come up with this list. Here is why we allowed each stage:

  • Luigi's Mansion
This stage was almost voted high enough to be a normal counterpick. It was also among the highest percentage for stages voted for a "Yes" to be tested.

  • Norfair
At one point, this stage was a legal counterpick in Brawl and was banned due to ledge stalling tactics. This stage got a decent amount of votes to test it again as well, so we decided it was worth bringing in.

  • Mario Circuit (Wii U)
This stage has been legal in previous Hypest events. However, the stage is rather controversial and it reflected that in our votes. We decided having it tested hre was a good idea.

  • Mushroom Kingdom U
This stage was shown to be quite popular in our voting, with many people mentioning in the comments how they enjoyed the stage but were just not sure if it should be legal or not. We decided to figure out if it should!

  • Port Town Aero Dive
When the stagelist went under another revision it left us with an even number of stages which would not work. This stage was the only other stage with enough popularity behind it from the poll that wasn't 100% broken that was worth consideration. The stage did have legality for a time in Brawl as well, so the stage does have some reasons to get a good second shot.

  • Wii Fit Studio
There are other tournaments that have been running walk-off stages. This stage did not receive as many votes to be tested HOWEVER we wanted to give it a personal look ourselves so that we can use our own experiences to tell other TOs how walk-off stages work in Smash 4

  • Windy Hill Zone
This stage is legal at many other tournaments and was voted for in good favor on the poll. We were concerned about camping and how large the stage may be, but with others saying it should be legal this was a perfect candidate to test

There were a few other stages that were voted high enough for testing consideration, but upon examining them we found them just far too broken to put alongside these more reasonable candidates.
