How will the new stage boundary affect the gameplay?

If this has been discussed before, I apologize.

In Melee, if a character was KO'd off the top, they would either fly away in the background until they disappear or hit the screen itself. However, I noticed in the second trailer that Mario and Link are KO'd off the top part of the screen and neither happens.

What's more is that they immediately got KO'd as they hit the top of the screen. So will this be the same for the sides and bottom as well? If so, this means we a smaller, although not by much, area and a higher chance of being KO'd if you get knocked off the stage.

I guess I wasn't clear when I said that.

What I mean is that the characters are closer to being KO'd, assuming they get KO'd as soon as they touch the edge of the screen.

In SSBM when you are KO'd off the top of the screen with a very high % it uses the explosion instead of the star KO. If this isn't true (as I haven't played the game in months), then I'm sure they scrapped it solely to add a little flare to the trailer.

I'm not sure about the reduced boundaries though, but I doubt they would do that.

I don't know what to say, considering we only saw the trailer. Trailers can put in false objects in order to simply pull the game together enough to make a trailer.

They were hit pretty hard in the trailer, causing them to do the explosion. It most likely will be the same as last game, star KO's and front screen KO's will be in but they don't happen everytime like in Melee. There also will probably be a little room off screen when you're knocked, not instant death. Nothing to worry about.

Ah, I see.
Here's the thing: That was almost a year ago.
That was a beta.

Play melee's Adventure mode, and get to the Kirby level. You'll notice that anything thrown upward has the explosion affect, rather than the star is the distance.

Its just whatever the developers felt like showing.

That would suck if the distance for Ko's was closer off screen. I mean it was always fun waiting for someoen to come back onscreen then BANG!

I think they didn't use the star KO for dramatic effect, cos if they did, then the trailer would have been longer. the explosions are just used so that the action doesn't slow down.

There's something that happened a few times in melee for me. I'm on my last life and so is my opponent. I hit him out of the screen to the top and they start doing the star flying out. So, nothing weird there but if you are playing on a level like brinstar depths or pokéfloats you might fall off accidently before the star KO finishes and you lose. gay

You know what would be cool?

If the star KO is optional, you could turn it off to speed up gameplay, not having to wait until someone has bling'd. Also good for tournament. Less time for the other to recover, more time to strike back at the foe.
