How to unlock?

Okay, this might sound like a stupid question, but I've beaten Classic mode with all 24 characters - why hasn't Mr Game & Watch challeneged me? Do you have to do it on a certain difficulty setting or without using continues?

"To unlock Mr. Game & Watch, you must complete both Classic or Adventure 1-P mode or the Target Test with ALL characters at any difficulty/stock, regular and hidden (that includes Mewtwo). After you do that, you'll be challenged; win this battle." - GameFaq
