How to reduce latency/input lag?

are there any tips to reduce that annoying input lag of a half of a second, or i'll just have to stick forever with it? I've heard there are some stuff like DMZ/plug and play stuff.

Any help is welcome, thanks.

Like 95% of my lag stopped once I got a lan adapter. I dont think you can fully be rid of it though. There's always going to be some kind of lag- no matter how small- unless you're playing offline

If you have bad wi-fi, get an ethernet connection with the LAN Adapter.
If you have good wi-fi, or after you've done that, reduce your latency by playing people closer to you.

Latency is the bottleneck - you're not going to have a nanosecond delay against someone not in your local network or on the same system. No matter what.

I'd say stick with players that live near you, but I'm not sure if Brazil even has all that many players to begin with...soo you may have to just deal with it? afaik there's no region matchmaking.

Get a LAN adapter.

If you use a wireless controller (Wii U Pro controller, Gamepad, etc), try your best to get a wired compromise (right now just the gamecube controller adapter and the Gamecube controllers or Wii U Classic controllers).

Also try playing against people nearby, maybe play against people on Smash Ladder so you can guarantee who's from where and what lag you might have.

why else do 90% of the players I play have Japanese names?
i doubt anyone from the US has that same ratio.

That sounds about right if I'm playing at 8AM GMT onwards, when the US is asleep and other timezones are still awake. However, for what it's worth, no matter when I play I always have at least a few Japanese players in my session. If matchmaking is in play then it certainly doesn't feel consistent.

Vyseskies, I recommend looking into your router's QoS settings. I have fast internet, but seemed to have issues with Smash getting reliable fps. I found out that most newer router's Quality of Service settings prioritize video conference calls and other services for computers over video game netplay. (Unless it was StarCraft or WoW) This means that any devices you have connected to your service but may be auto-updating or constantly checking the web are getting priority on your system and choking out your connection (Like windows update, cell phones that may have facebook constantly on or if you have a family member trying to surf the web). I was able to assign to my router to give my Wii U and 3DS priority when they are on the internet, which gave me a great boost. I went from a 50/50 lag set up to around a 1 in 9 matches have issues.

I've been able to improve the P2P connections for other fighting games now that I know that my router was choking them. Take a look and see if it helps.
