How to practice offensive game?

I keep losing to the same guy at all the local tournaments I go to, and any time I play defensive he just breaks right through my defense. Would a good way of practicing my offensive game be turning of shield and grab (Because grab can air dodge) and try playing like that for a while? Or would that cause problems? I seriously need someones help on this.

I think we'll need to start with hearing who you and the nemesis are playing as. It's possible that the MU simply isn't in your favor, in which case some people might even advise you try an alternate character. In any case, I don't think removing your defensive options from the controller would really help you much, since you might just default to them as soon as they are available again. Better to mentally make an effort to turtle up less or at least mix up your blocks/spot dodges/rolls/etc.

The MU is Mario vs Luigi if that helps at all, he plays extremely patient, yet crazy offensively at the same time. I have no clue how to practice for it.

Well I imagine that as a Luigi he is getting you in a lot of situations where he is grabbing you? If that's the case then you need to not necessarily play more offensively but bait him in and respond with attacks that beat out his option.

I'm not sure how exactly you'd practice this beyond just making an effort to.

Well thank you anyways, any kind of advice on the Mario vs Luigi MU will help.

If you want to play better offensively, find new ways to use all of your moves. Practice using all of your moves and dodges over the course of a jump so you know how to get your hit-boxes out exactly where you want them. Get better at full hop fast fall N-air and F-air. Use more RAR B-airs. Try sliding turnaround JC U-smashes.

You can even use your attacks for defense. Jump out of shield more. If you think he's coming in for a grab, try an OoS jump-back-then-forwards F-air. Smartly use Short-Hop-Air-Dodge N-air U-air and B-air. Don't always try to shield grab when you can JC U-smash OoS.
