I haven't tried getting good at smash since smash 4 came out, and I only played for about 5 months before I gave up. Coming into ultimate, I really want to try and get good but I keep feeling like I can't improve. I know the basics to the game, but I feel I struggle a lot in getting the right inputs I want all the time, for instance I feel like I never get smash attacks when I want them but I do them accidentally all the time. Another area where I feel I need improvement is movement, I feel like I can't ever move how I want to, and I struggle to get short hops every time. All in all, I'm looking for tips so I can improve myself and get good at the game. Any advice is appreciated.

If movement, input, etc is your main issue, take a level 1 CPU and just practice those things. Level 1s don't really do anything, so you can practice specific movement and inputs on them (f-tilt out of dash, for example), all in a stress-free environment. Move from platform to platform. Get spacing down. Get the overall feel down. Keep at it until you can do everything without even thinking.

Not much you can do except put in the time and read/watch guides.

If I'm by myself, my sessions looks something like this:

1. Head into training, and SH for 1-2 minutes.
2. SH > FF for 1-2 minutes
3. SH > nair > FF for 1-2 minutes
4. SH > fair (in alternating directions) > ff 1-2 min
4. Practice various recovery combinations on both sides of the stage for 1-2 minutes
5. Head into versus and fight lvl 9s

Of course I prefer just playing matches with people better than me, but with my online mode not functioning properly, I don't always get to do that.

Also enjoy just watching gameplay videos and streams involving my main.

Best is to focus on one thing at a time if you want your movement down practice movement everyday in practice focusing on the basics. Don't try to do to much, thinking you'll improve everything at once.

Movement -> Spacing -> Aerials -> etc -> etc. Or how ever you want to do it. But just put all effort into one thing at a time.
