Hey guys, I bought FE:A yesterday, and I'm kinda a little bored with it. How exactly am I supposed to enjoy this? I'm not really sure if I'm playing with the right mindset when I play it. I'm not doing Casual mode, either.

You're not forced to enjoy stuff.

If it's a difficulty thing, just stick with it and figure it out. If you actually find it genuinely boring, just stop playing it.

I don't find it genuinely boring, I just am not sure if I'm playing it the right sort of way.

Like why do you think it's fun? Maybe I'm not paying enough attention to the plot or something.

Oh I've never played FE, I'm just speaking generally.

Pretty sure the fun comes from.the strategic aspect of it though, what with being a tactical RPG

Well there isn't really a "right" way to play it, I guess. Of course if you have people dying left, right and centre, then you're playing it wrong, but that's it :p

I'm not really sure how to explain why I find it fun. The games just clicked with me straight away. I think it's to do with how the game makes you think about your every move thoroughly, and also how it makes you actually care for (most of) the characters. You don't want to just send Cordelia off to fight some myrmidon, because what if there's an archer or two waiting to shoot her out of the sky? You're responsible for all of these people getting home alive at the end of the chapter, and if you're getting involved with the characters, you'll want to get them all home alive.

The games can sometimes be a bit slow to get going though. How far are you into the game? Have you started getting supports yet? That's when the characters really start to open up, and you start to get to know and care about them. You do have to give the plot some attention as well - the characters, plot, and gameplay all go together to give you the full experience.

Of course, it's not going to be for everyone. That's just my best attempt at describing why I enjoy the FE games - it's fairly hard for me to put it into words though.

FE: A is going to require a big devotion of time to fully enjoy given how depth-heavy it is, which includes doing side stories, grinding, trial-and-error (unless you don't care for keeping your units preserved), having a set game-plan for each chapter (training the right characters, best pair-ups, and leveling them up properly), and managing equipment. If you don't have that time or patience, then Awakening, Fire Emblem, or tactical RPGs aren't for you.

Don't do a hard difficulty, start out on normal or whatever (but you have to do classic mode!!!). And just play it like any other game. It starts off a little slow, but if you actually read the dialogue and build supports between characters and such, you'll find yourself loving that game in no time.

Truth is binary, not a continuum.
Also don't bother playing Lunatic at any point, very poorly implemented, not satisfying or rewarding at all. It's basically just designed to bait you into purchasing the DLC which provides a massive advantage.

I wouldn't call Awakening a very good Fire Emblem game in general, it's less about tactics and more about grinding. Character experience management isn't really a thing, although the horrors of bad RNG are alleviated by the ability to level up indefinitely.

I spent 80% of my time playing FE:A in an excel spread sheet trying to figure out optimal marriages.

10/10 game imo

I played the one for the GBA as well several times over. I really like the turn based mechanics, all the units/characters are really cool, and I felt like there was a lot of depth to the game. But i mean, if you don't enjoy it, there's no reason to play it.

While Awakening is deemed the "beginners game" for most, I started with Sacred Stones which had a much easier difficulty compared to the other entries and I've been interested ever since.

You might be bored by the genre, it's not for everyone.

FE:A was my first game in the series too and I actually just got around to finish it about two days ago. I enjoyed it, but I don't see myself getting too much into the series. Tactical RPGs like that just aren't my thing like they are for some other people.

But what made me enjoy it anyways was the plot, the character development throughout the game, the genuine care for them dying or getting hurt, the animation, and the planning you had to do whenever you made a move. It's a lot of fun and I'm going to spend more time in the game doing side missions and stuff, but I'm not crazy about it like some others are. I prefer traditional RPGs like Golden Sun.
