How to do aerials faster after shorthop?

I've been having trouble quickly using an aerial after a shorthop. I use the x button to jump and use the cstick for all my aerials except for nair. While playing fox, I usually can only start using dair a bit before I need to fastfall. What should I be doing to be able to do aerials almost immediately after a shorthop?

C-stick is good for aerials in that it allows you to do any aerial without influencing your direction, but if you feel that you can't do them quick enough with the C-stick out of SH, you should try out the A or Z buttons. As long as you SHFFL correctly, the momentum from not using C-stick shouldn't be too bad to mess up any combos.

I wouldn't get into the habit of using A or Z. You can't fast fall that while doing an instant dair because you're holding down before the peak of your jump. You want to start changing your motion to sliding off of your jump button and keep that motion into the c stick. It should all be one fluid sliding downward motion.

^that. D-air you can do fairly easily with C-stick if you're fast enough. I play several characters with bad D-air SHFFLs so it didn't occur to me that I was sort of giving you bad advice >> but if you have a hard time SHFFLing aerials besides D-air with C-stick, I would suggest A/Z buttons. People commonly reserve quick C-stick SHFFLs for D-air and F-air/B-air (moving it to the left) because those are the directions you can flick the C-stick in the quickest.

If you can't move faster, you may want to consider clawing or changing one of your shoulder buttons to jump and getting used to that. In both cases, you have one finger dedicated to jumping and your thumb available for the C-stick, so you won't have any issue doing your aerial immediately after a jump. Doing this can also make things like double shining a lot easier as well.

I have no problems double shining, but thanks for the advice

I claw because im ridley, my hands are big enough to do so.
And just a side-note: you cant fast fall an aerial if you did it before reaching the peak of your jump

+1 for Ridley lols.

If that's the case, then D-airing immediately from SH with A/Z-buttons shouldn't really be an issue then right? I really don't know these things...can never tell if I'm SHFFLing things properly. Floaty main noob problems.

this is only true if you're--for whatever reason--needlessly holding the control stick down throughout the jump. you can easily fast fall an instant dair without the c-stick by: short/full hopping + tapping(not holding) down the control stick + A or Z, and then letting the control stick return to neutral before finally pressing it down again at the jump's peak for the fast fall.
