how to deal with projectile heavy characters?

In all honesty whenever I go on for glory (I main Charizard), but whenever I deal with Link, Samus, Robin, or Megaman, these ******** just spam those projectiles and I'm not able to even touch them. For example, jumping over the projectiles and doing an arial would lead to them bubbling and punishing. Dodging almost never works because I also get punished with a bubble. Any suggestions?

Learning to reliably powershield the projectiles would be a great boon. Also, you don't HAVE to do an aerial as you jump over their shots, you could just land near them and go for a ground approach when you're close enough that continuing to use projectiles is risky.

You can either learn the matchup better or pick a counter for those opponents. No shame in switching out if the going gets tough.

This.

Also, when I played Charizard I would get in range (not enough for them to hit me) and use Neutral-Special. Its a handy way to get them out of their comfort zone.

Approach carefully with dash shielding. Power shielding makes this even easier, as someone else stated.

If you come from the air, mix it up how you do it. If you come down with an aerial, try to space it so you can't be counter hit to the best of your ability or empty jump fastfall. If they are still shielding, then throw them.

As for charizard specfic stuff, he's got some unique opitons. Once you get in the mid range Flamethrower can beat thrown projectiles while also hitting them should they want to move closer. In the air he also has an extra jump to mess around with, so jump in then jump before landing behind them. Think outside the box for more creative ways to use that. Lastly, Flare Blitz bulldozes through projectiles for a heavy punish.

The most important part of approaching is see how the opponent reacts not when you get in but instead HOW get in and when you are almost in. Just as youj are trying to get in they are also watcching how to keep you out. Pay attention to their tendencies and make them pay for it.

Good luck.

Powershielding. Get good at it. Watch serious Brawl Ganondorf players, they don't take that crap lightly. (He has the Triforce of Power for a reason...:awesome:)

Though having multiple characters in your arsenal isn't a bad thing. Your character will generally have some weaknesses against some types of characters so I'd suggest picking up a secondary as well.

They have a certain pattern of how they use their projectile. If you can figure them out within the time frame of 5 minutes, then that's good. Once you rush them down, not mindlessly, of course, then they start to feel the pressure, because the characters you've mentioned, minus Robin and Link, in my opinion, do bad against close quarter combat. There really is no other way around it unless you choose a different character, which is something I don't think you want to do.

Play very patiently, charging in recklessly without a plan will only get you rekt.learning there patterns and when is the best time to close the gap also helps.

And when all else fails, counter pick.

As a Toon Link player the one thing that I could suggest is, like others have pointed out, LEARN TO POWER SHIELD CONSISTENTLY. This is vital because not only do you not get hit, it will pressure a projectile-heavy character to try to change up their game, or they might become impatient and try to approach a little bit, which you as Charizard can punish extremely heavily. If they stay patient and continue to pelt you with projectiles as you power shield most of them the best you can really do is try to find a pattern in what they're doing, find a way through it and what you should do when they land or shoot their Arcfire or Boomerang or whatever. Getting in close will cause most of the projectile zoner types to get uncomfortable and act improperly, and even if they don't their best option is usually very predictable and often punishable.

Power Shielding out of dashes can be tricky as projectiles are flying at you so I wouldn't worry about that quite as much, but shielding out of your dash should be the main way you approach these. You can try rolling occasionally but they'll be able to punish you if you do it too much. Approaching from the air can circumstantially be better and it's good for mix-ups sometimes, but Charizard is a pretty big target and doesn't move all that fast so trying that too much won't work too well either. Since you're relying on shields a lot you may want to be wary of grabs, especially Robin's command grab Down B since that has a pretty good range, so you also might want to work on reading those for when you get in close.

Finally challenging projectiles with Charizard's fire can work nicely at times, and Down B has super armor that can help cover a lot of options that these characters have up close. Side B will travel across the screen and through weak projectiles so keep that around for every now-and-then. Charizard is a very punish-oriented character, and the best way to get punishable options out of these characters generally is to approach them like this, just don't try to pull the same ideology off on Captain Falcon because approaching him with shields is not something he has a problem with =P

I actually fought a Link earlier. The first match wasn't going so well, and neither was the second match. I managed to pull through each one, and on the third match, I applied pressure on him, forcing him to act differently, because I saw what he was doing. I thought about counter picking with Samus, but with Ness as my main, and the struggle I was going up against, I figured the best way for me to deal with this Link was to use a character that can get camped.

Power Shield and rock smash are the best options, but also mix up your approach game, in training find at least 5 different approaches to do and once you have an established arsenal apply those in game.

Here's the trick. Never chase them, just run to the other side of the stage and whenever they throw a projectile just shield or jump. They'll usually give up before you do and rush in.

Power sheild power sheild power sheild. Hop twoards them using no aerial or a retreating neutral air. Try to perfect your dash grab. More often than not when you get in on a projectile heavy character or someone spamming online they won't know what to do when you mix it up. Also I would not suggest mindlessly trying to flare blitz through them because of the rare few charizards I've seen many projectiles stop flare blitz.
Overall don't let it bother you, do your best to dodge and get in close, a lot of projectiles are catchable as well learn which ones are and you'll have an easier time.
