As someone who has (as well as close friends) had trouble on occasion not getting distracted on that character select screen I have developed an appreciation for the fine art of not changing mains every goddamnn day. I have also developed some of my own habbits which help me keep focus; the main one being:
Make your character cool. You chose your main for a reason and it's presumably because there are aspects to their game that you enjoy. After a while of maining them you might get a little less satisfaction out of those things, see another character do something cool, then get distracted. My suggestion is instead try to find some aspect of your existing main you haven't explored yet. This could be a new technique, new play style, or anything that kind of refreshes that novelty response. For technical characters this is easier being that there will be some absurd TAS baloney to get obsessed over. Which leads me to an important point of not getting turned off of learning these new things because their hard. Sounds obvious but as video gamers we are susceptible to the short term rewards over long term rewards. My suggestion is to try to keep in mind that the long term goal, although a longer wait, will almost certainly feel waaaaay sweeter when you finally get it.
A final note is that this doesn't mean don't experiment with other characters. Experimenting with other characters can be fun and a great way of learning certain matchups better and is borderline essential when you first start out. That being said, when you spend more time on doing that then focusing on your main it's then time to reevaluate and refocus.
Anyway, hope this helps!
