How to combo at low percents?

I've seen other Marths do combos right from the get go, but I just can't seem to do them until the opponent is at least above around 30%. Especially chain grabs. The opponent just doesn't go high enough for me to do anything else, but i've seen other people do it before, so I know it's possible. Any help would be appreciated.

One of the unique aspects of Melee is that move knockback changes depending on damage. Different damage requires a different approach to the punish game.

Chainthrows against Fox are guaranteed from zero to 30-something, and against Falco from 3 or 4% to 30-something. If you miss chainthrows in these percents, it's simply that you're failing to perform the inputs. If you're sure you're performing them correctly (grab or turnaround grab until ~17% then dash->pivot JC grab against no DI the rest of the way) then all you can do is practice. After those percents, there are ways for Fox and Falco to get out if you just keep uthrowing them, so, in fact, against experience players it should really stop working right when you say it starts working.

With regard to other combos, you'll need to ask more specifically about options against a given character, because characters have different weights and fall speeds which change what you can do to them.

part of it can also be predicting their DI. I believe m2k pivot grabs for DI behind but in reality its just getting the inputs right.

Basically it comes down to being a lot quicker than you think you should have to be. Think of fox as being lower than he visually is - this will help some with timings.

There are legit flowcharts, but the gerneral idea vs fox is:
0-21% just straight upthrow regrab, if they DI behind you pivot grab
21%+ continue to rethrow but at this point if fox doesn't DI at all than he will land slightly behind you by default, so you have to do a quick dash backwards then pivot grab out of the dash
39(i think)%+ after uthrow you can uptilt into regrab, or just string utilts
65ish% (i think you can before this but its hard to) you can start uthrow uairing

Just practice it a ton pretty much

Everybody has their own Marth. While theire is the standard hurp hurp fsmash, everybody's Opener and overall gameplay is gonna be different. My favorite startup I like to get going is a Fthrow chain to get them to ledge. I don't like Upthrow chain grabbing all that much.
