Mods, take this down if necessary. I'm only bringing this topic up because of recent posts here, and I think it would serve the community better if we all knew how to act. I can't say I am really familiar with the tournament scene, but nonetheless there's a major difference between trash talking and being in lieu of a censordodge, jagoff. So without further ado, let's talk about how to keep the tournament scene still a fun place to play, but without the d-baggery.

So the reason I'm making this thread is because in light of recent posts seen in this section of the boards, it's important to rehash on how to be courteous in a tournament. Since things can get heated during play, it's wise to take everything with a grain of salt, but even more wise to have a good attitude and mindset about how to act when you compete.

This original post will be modified as discussions are held about various topics.

While this seems and actually is slightly stupid to post, we as a community need to know how to correctly treat other people. So if this gets taken down right away, I understand and so be it, but I would love to see a discussion and hear about past issues (please don't name names or blacklist people, this forum is not to cause drama but perhaps debate, but overall guidelines on how to act and what to refrain from).

If this comes off as snobbish, excuse me haha, I wanted to make it sound polite. Start!

I'm all for trash-talk to a point. But if you're purposefully demeaning other players while they're playing or before you're about to play, e.g., "Oh xxxxx isn't ****, he doesn't have any skill, he should quit the game", "Get on the ball, xxx! You suck, man, stop losing to xxxx!", I think you need to assess the way you carry yourself at tournaments.

Definitely. I mean with any tournament a little trash talking is okay, but to a point. I'm even somewhat tolerant to being cussed at like "Oh **** you and your damn Zelda aerials" but more in a way that is sarcastic or joking. Actively demeaning a player's skill is pointless though, tips to improve on the other hand are always nice
