How to approach with Kirby?

How can I approach with Kirby? I find that the problem with kirby is that in the air he's to slow and predictable, and on the ground his moves are to limited because his grab is **** and you can't set anything up with it.

Any advice?

This must be a joke thread.
Probably someone really new to Smash64.
Topic starter - learn about the techniques that are beyond simple throws. :lick:
My sticky at the top might be start.
Learn how to Z-cancel and short hop consistently, then come back and ask for advice.

Use shorthop dair, utilt, and bair for starters. Edgeguard with dair or bair, fsmash will also connect easily if your opponents aren't that great

Or he's just becoming good, and finds out that kirby's horizontal movement is indeed slow.
Shorthop fair is what I approach most with when the opponent is in the air, if his aerials have more priority use shorthop nair, and if he's on the ground use shorthop dair followed by uptilts/smashes.

Down and F smash are awesome.

Kirby is amazing, that's all there is to it.
Dsmash is not really "that" good...it is pretty quick and does have a long ..umm..duration? but it is easy to punish...I almost never use Dsmash, much rather poke with jabs and Dtilts, then Fsmash or Nair xO

Thanks this was really helpful, for the first 3 posters, smd.

I know how to zcancel and shorthop -.- and I'm not claiming I'm good by these forum standards, but I'm past the phase full of smash attacks and grabs.

And I AM having trouble approaching with kirby because he's ****ed slow in the air (which makes me predictable) and his ground attacks have long recoveries (which makes me vulnerable)

If you're playing against Fox the problems you mention here become 10 times as big, because he has projectiles, and the projectiles he has can't be stopped with fair or nair. Unlike Mario/Link for example. Against projectileless chars your approach shouldn't be a big problem with Kirby, and for Mario/Link a jab should be enough to stop the projectiles. When playing against Fox, go to the left part of Hyrule, that's all I can say I think. Or the right part of Hyrule, but the wall of pain feels bad of you're the victim. Or you could do my personal favorite option: don't play on Hyrule.

Hyrule battles are beyond stupid with Fox vs Kirby. Kirby camps left, Fox camps right, nothing happens for 8 minutes.
Short hop Fairs are probably the best way to go, beware if you're playing against someone who can DI well. Against Fox I generally try approaching high.

Kirby vs fox is almost suicidal if the fox can shdl and do even basic fox combos. At least in jigglypuff vs fox you have easy 0-deaths, kirby can either techchase properly or lose, where as fox can combo the heck out of kirby all over the place.

kirby's down air, f-air, and back air help tremendously vs Faux. also, make sure your up tilt combos work well.

Watch a really good online Kirby and learn how to use him well.

Basically vs fox you wanna use a few utilts into a fair (not letting the last part of the drill knock the person away) and then another utilt to nair or bair, or a fsmash, correct?

I'm not sure about that, but I'm sure about Dair -> Utilt x3 -> Fair (all hits to knock him forward) -> Fsmash. Done properly it combos, takes very little horizontal space (can be done on big enough plats) and on Congo Jungle and Dreamland sets up edgeguarding almost immediately.
