How to add shadows to stage?

Just started working on a stage from the vault, there are two models: the background and the stage model (shaped like Battlefield)

Trying to add a shadow hanging below each of the 3 platforms, and shadows for the people on the stage... I've only been able to find out how to add shadows for the people, and that doesn't work... the background gets messed up and all the stage textures get the appearance of being zoomed in, unless my character is far off the stage, and then the stage goes back to normal for a few seconds. Help?

what about non-character shadows, like platform shadows?
I'm not sure if I understand. Could you give an example of a stage with platform shadows? As far as I can tell, Brawl / Project M doesn't have these.

most stages don't, but i was working on a port of miiverse and the stage had platform shadows I wanted to emulate. wasn't quite sure how to go about it.

Well, you could just "paint on" the shadows with texture edits.
