Ever since Ryu was introduced, I started asking myself that question in the title, since other characters didn't look anywhere as difficult to use as Ryu, though i started thinking about it and my mind went to Pac-Man, a character who is very technical without button pressing, rather knowledge of his programming comes into mind. So now I want the community to give their opinion here.

Side note: We could maybe even get a list of the least to the most technical characters currently in smash 4 off of this.

s4 isnt technical in the sense that the engine is complex, moreso the less homogenized unique characters that are "technical" due to having more diverse kits

list of characters that fit under that moniker: :4duckhunt::4link:/:4tlink::4alph::4pacman::4peach::4pikachu::4zelda::4ryu::rosalina::4robinf::4shulk::4mewtwo::4megaman::4littlemac:

That's rather difficult to answer. Because of their design, some require more button pressing than others. Meanwhile, others will require more reads and such. :4bowser: is not an execution heavy character, but he requires thought out strategy to do well. Meanwhile, you have :4greninja: who is execution heavy, but does need as well thought out of a strategy to do well. This isn't to say :4greninja:can just derp around. Rather, his strategies are more short term than long term.

There are lot of factors to consider that makes this a difficult question. It depends on move safety, mobility, power, weight, etc. It's best to look at it from a playstyle point of view to get a good idea.

Rushdown (i.e. :4feroy::4sheik:) - More execution heavy than strategy heavy. Their moves can be very safe and have a lot of mobility, but their strategies revolve around getting in - some easier than others.

Zoners (i.e. :4link::4samus::4duckhunt::4zelda::4villager:) - In this game, they're not particularly execution heavy, but they need good knowledge of their toolkit and can apply their techniques in diverse ways.

Grapplers/Tanks (i.e. :4bowser::4ganondorf::4dk::4dedede::4charizard:) - Not execution heavy because their attacks can do 2-3x as much as other characters. They are very strategy dependent and require a deep understanding of fundamentals, giving them one of the higher learning curves.

Footsies (i.e. :4ryu::4marth::4mario:) - Middle of the road charactrs in terms of range, power, execution, and strategy. Excellent for teaching beginners.

Speedsters - (i.e.:4fox::4pikachu::4wario::4sonic:) - Excellent speed, but may require zoning, rushdown, and footsies as part of their strategy and execution.
