How Many Hours Will Smash 4 Have?

The name says it all. Sakuri has an amazing talent of putting more and more content and replay ability into his games. What do you guys think the average playtime for a normal player will be?

You can't quantify a fighting game in hours.

Depends on the person... Some may play for a month, others may play for a year...

For me depends on how hard and long it takes to defeat the unlockable characters and unlock the stages

But trophy collecting and everything else maybe?

I had like 500 hours on brawl alone. Not counting project M.

so I'd say a lot.

It's already practically confirmed (in my mind) to be better from a gameplay perspective than Brawl was, not that I disliked it, but that in itself just goes to show that I'll play it at least for the hundreds of hours I put into Brawl.

Of course the lack of padding in the form of SSE might take some hours away.

Of course the probability of better online play adds about 1000X that many hours back on so...

Define "normal".
Well let's take brawl for an example. When brawl came out everyone played it. Than about a year later, maybe two or three. It sort of lost that charm. Of course people still play it, I know I do. And I practice using my mains. And there's also the meta game which almost makes a game live forever. But when we get to the point to run out of in-game content and a casual player gets tired of it, that is what I mean.

There's no game I play as much and as often as Smash Bros. I've dropped Melee because of Project M being better in virtually every way, but that took 11 years to happen, and I still play Brawl too. And ****, now it's both on a console AND it's also portable? It'll give me MANY hours of entertainment.

Probably much longer then Brawl and then double that because I'm getting 3DS and Wii U version.

So you meant a casual?

Well your regular casual would most likely only play for like a week before moving on.

A regular gamer who doesn't play competitively will probably play for years.

Well it comes to how much content it will have, and how long a non competitive player will play it until they will run out of that content

A non-competitive player doesn't have to do single player only, you know. If online is implemented they can do that or play with friends still.

I'd say that the game will remain fresh for quite some time after release, even for casual players. Since we're still going to have collectable content and (HOPEFULLY) an improved and expanded internet experience, many players will get something out of it. I mean, heck, I still play Brawl for small tourneys among friends and put up with its absolutely abysmal internet interface, so if SSB4 is anything comparable to how the Mario Karts have been lately online, then I may very well be playing it for years to come.

Smash Bros. games shouldn't be measured with hours; they should be measured with the amount of vs. matches that have been played (against both people and CPUs).

SSE wasn't padding at all, it was a fun story mode that shouldn't be removed from the game. And I hope it has a lot of hours of single-player content to shut up those "All we care about is multiplayer" douches.

Yet sse was bland and boring- the cutscenes and fan service made the boring adventure worth it... If I recall sse ate up a lot of brawls development time.

And sakurai is catering towards the multiplayer crowd(casuals and the competitive players) as fighting games are mostly successfully from multiplayer and balance etc.

Tell me D-idara are you going to be spending most of time playing on smash on single player content or multiplayer content???????????

To be perfectly honest, and forgive me for digressing from the subject a bit, the thing that prevented me from going to tournaments and playing on as competitive a level as I can with Brawl was lack of money, and the wi-fi sucked (and still does). Of course, add the fact that I'm raising a daughter, and that will make traveling even more difficult. If the online aspect of Smash 4 is smooth and relatively lagless, it will give those who lack the luxury of travel the opportunity to play with real people online, get better, and (assuming the online is THAT good), make wi-fi tournaments a viable thing.

You are forgiven. I hope you and your daughter have a ton of fun playing smash. :-) Let's get back on topic though.

I suppose I was just speaking from my own personal experience/opinion regarding the SSE, which I found to be entirely too repetitive to be enjoyable. I always love the other single-player offerings though, I particularly hope to see Event Matches come back in a big way.

Depends on the quailty of the game if the gameplay is good at or at least enjoyable for someone who enjoys melee/P:M it will be alot if it sucks. I'm done supporting the series if it is gonna only be for casuals.

The average gamer's interest will probably peter out after 50 accumulated hours. That kind of player probably wouldn't be bothered to unlock every piece of minutia; their enjoyment would crescendo at unlocking the last character or game mode, and lower from there.

Of course, the sincerest Smash fans will be playing this game for years, so a measure of "How many days/weeks" would better answer your question.

Well, aren't you just a bucket o' sunshine? The game's pretty much always been built with casual gamers in mind. It's just the community who tries to make it competitive. Which I have no problem with. Just saying.

Anyway, I can imagine people playing nonstop for a good 2-3 days at least, a few weeks at most. After that, people will probably only go back to it every now and then, like some people do with Brawl.

I don't think you can really judge how many hours a Smash game will have, but I know I'll probably play it forever.

What's really weird is that some, if not most of the franchises in Smash games are rather played mostly by die-hard Nintendo fans, yet sakurai focuses more on the casuals party liking games.

Knowing me, a year or more at least (I'm not one to keep physical games for that long, but then again I've never owned a Smash Bros game)...

That's your stupid, close-minded opinion. All games were made with casual audiences in mind, it's just that Melee had a twitchier, glitchier engine that could be exploited way more. Competitive Brawl is fun.

If this game has good online and good gameplay (personally i prefer melees gameplay over brawls) then i could see myself playing this game 5 years from now. It is ridiculous how much the online is gonna extend the play time for me haha, lets just hope it has a good netcode and ranking system!
