  • Mario = He should be the jack of all trades master of none. He should have a decent fireball, good anti air and good poking abillity. Although he wont exceed in all of them it would still make him a viable character.
  • Megaman = A very versatile zoning character who can deal with pressure very well however the recovery of his moves will make the player have little room for mistakes coupled in with his low def.
  • Sonic = Very fast he can get up into peoples faces and do damage with ease however he wont have very good pokes or moves that do alot of damage. So the Sonic player needs to use his biggest advantage speed often.
  • Pacman = May be a very unorthodox character he may start the round weak but with the more powerups he seems to take he will only get stronger. So the faster he is gone the better.
  • Greninja = An agile character with good pokes, high damage and can be very mobile however his def will be his downfall and because he has to be in the line of danger all the time you will have to utilize all his moves strategically.
  • Marth = Quick, mobile and can take alot of punches however Marth gets as much mileage using the tip of his sword. Allowing the player with a rushdown/defense playsyle and does good in both departments.
  • Ike = Very powerful character with the best pokes in the game mixed in with a ton of def making Ike very formidable to face and could end a match in minutes depending on the other players reads. However he is extremely slow thus making it easier to zone him but Ike got dem pokes to take care o dat
  • Lil Mac = Fast and very strong and can knock out anyone in just a few seconds however his aerial game is atrocious making him rely on getting close and fast his high HP ensures that he can do his best as a rushdown character.
That's it so far and keep in mind that I have never played a smash bros game in my life. And that this is coming from my SF4 experience.

I know "lurk more" is a cliche but you should probably have some idea what you're talking about before you make a thread like this.

Well I hope you enjoy Smash it's really awesome, and in my opinion way better then PS All-Stars.

This sounds pretty spot on. Well except that comment about Megaman being able to deal with pressure. The majority of Megaman's moveset is projectiles, even a good chuck of his normals. This would likely make it hard for him to get opponents off of him once the get in close. A good chunk of his melee attacks look like they have somewhat lengthy startup as well. I can see Megaman abusing shield-grab out of a lack of better shield options, a lot like Roy actually.

But zoners vs pure rushdown characters will always be a bad matchup. He should have a few options for pressure so the opposing needs to actual think what they are going to do v Megaman.

So...if you've never played Smash Bros. in your life...why in the blue hell do you think we want to hear your opinion on what the game should be like...?

That's a good point. However hearing opinions from different people casual or hardcore are very important.

And...you are a neither. You have neither casual nor hardcore experience. That makes your opinion on probably the lowest side of the unimportant scale as humanly possible.

But I know fighting games in general. The fundamentals'punishes inputs, option selects ect I know them all I play fighting games alot. So I am putting my knowledge into Super smash bros and typing out how I think they should play like. So I think my opinion would be quite relevant.

It's pretty fine speculation, even if it does sound like you have done a fair bit of research instead of going into this purely off of guesswork. Your predictions match up pretty well with the precise characters, instead of being kinda generalized like someone without exposure would likely be.

The only odd one is Pac Man. Nothing I've seen indicates that he gets stronger with powerups (though he has been shown cycling retro powerups with different properties as one of his specials). Your suggestion for him seems slightly more in line with Lucario, who gets stronger the more damage he takes and further behind he falls.

Pac man is much more different than Lucario. While Lucario gets stronger while losing health Pacman gets stronger by using his items and utilizing what each one do. Think of it as a oiled Hakan.

Alas, my fighting game experience is pretty limited to Smash and Tatsunoko vs Capcom, so I've no idea who or what Hakan is. What I expect from Pacman's abilities (that we've seen so far) is flexibility, though ultimately their usefulness will depend much on how quickly they can be cycled.

Please go play smash bros man. It's incredible.
A common misconception from the Sony side is that it plays exactly like PS All Stars. Although they are both platform fighters they couldn't feel any more different. PS All Stars is really its own game that went pretty far from the smash formula, especially because smash is all about getting ringouts.

I'm assuming ya missed out on some other awesome wii fighters like Tatsunoko vs Capcom and Clash of Ninja Revolution 3, although their online features are no longer functional. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R should be on the playstation online store by now too, which comes with online multiplayer that the wii version lacks.

Your opinion on this is anything but relevant.

As a fellow person well versed in other fighting games (SF, Mahvel, Tekken, Melee) I will tell you right now that smash is very different from other traditional fighting games. Characters can have an optimal playstyle such as a rush down Fox or trade-favoring Samus I guess, but you can really play the characters however way you want and still do well. One of the great things about smash is the ability to express yourself while playing, more than any other game really. Putting them into character categories just doesn't really work because the game gives you (at least melee does) so many options in attack, defense, and movement that you can almost do anything you want given the tools the character has

As Sonic once said "What can I say, I die hard." I'm sure he'll be annoying to catch in a combo thus increasing his survivability. In all honesty I love how the characters look so far. Lil Mac plays exactly how I would imagine. Stay on the ground my friend. The only character I'm really confused about at this moment is our lovely goddess Polly Pocket. I mean Palutena. I can't even speculate on her.
