I don't have Smash Bros. yet and I don't think I'll be able to get myself a GC adapter anytime soon. I haven't used a Wii U Pro controller so I don't know if they're any good or not. I do have experience with the Classic Controller Pro and I think it's okay. What I really want to know is what you guys think, how good are the Wii U Pro Controller and Classic Controller Pro for Smash Bros.?

I have a Nyko Pro Commander, it is a third party Wii U Pro Controller and it works wonders, prefer it to the gamepad any day!

The Wii U pro controller, in my opinion, is just as good as the GameCube controller. I noticed no lag with the cobtroller. Only thing you may not like is that the C-Stick is in a different spot than the GameCube controller. This is the best controller option since the GameCube controller in my opinion.

Wii U Pro controller is just fine.
I thought the button placement was awkward at first, but I adjusted to it after about 2 days. Feels perfectly fine now.
Thing has mad battery life too. Something like 60-80 hours I believe.

It works fine, although I would not pick it over a gamecube controller. it is still comfortable and has little to no lag. You will have to get used to it, but if you played on the 3DS than it is essentially a more comfortable version of that layout

I like it because I can perform quicker aerials with the C-Stick next to the jump button.

The analog stick is a lot better on the GameCube because of the linear segments around the control stick which increases accuracy and the several circular grip formation it has which feels more form and comfortable in my opinion. I use the Pro and it is quite good.

The Classic Controller Pro shares the segmented analog stick if you can get used to the Playstation style stick location.

I prefer the Classic Controller. Transitioned to that from the Gamecube controller by preference from Brawl actually. It feels very similar to the gamecube controller with its octagonal gated control sticks. Also the face buttons are well spaced from each other, the pro controller buttons feel too tight together for me.

I think I would NEED a gamecube controller, or a HORI pad. Maybe it's just me? I'm having a hard time dealing with accidentally reversing ROB's down B and some other moves. I think the octogon shaped stick edges will help me out a ton. I am just using the Gamepad

For me the Pro controller works fine most of the time , but i can sometimes notice the lagg (I.E dodge rolling) and for me i notice it really bad. Also i don't know if this a commen problem, but when i'm mid battle and use Marth's Shieldbreaker trying to get back on a stage while in the air for some reason sometimes my character just turns around and uses the Shieldbreaker in the different/ wrong direction. I've also have this happen to me while playing on another Pro controller (since i own 2) and also on my gamepad. This being said i've just bought the game and have it in my possession for like 30 hours now.
Maybe it's just me still transitioning from Melee...never played brawl...12 years straight of Melee....

There are four things I hate about the Pro Controller.

1. I find the analog sticks way too slippery compared to Playstation analog sticks. (This applies to the GCN's analog stick as well).
2. Trying to grip the handles hurts my hands, so it only works well for having it rest on my hands which is really annoying compared to the GCN controller's grips and the Classic Controller Pro's grips.
3. I absolutely hate the placement of the ABXY buttons and the dpad, but the dpad isn't very important in this game.
4. Not a fan of the digital triggers. Well made analog triggers are way nicer. However, there are no real benefit to analog triggers in this game and they shoulder buttons work way better for Smash 4 than the GCN controller's shoulder buttons.

Despite my complaints, I vastly prefer the Wii U Pro Controller over the GCN Controller for Smash Bros. The analog sticks are a vast improvements over the GCN analog sticks and I replaced my Pro Controller analog sticks with DualShock 4 analog sticks. The ABXY buttons interface works much better for me with this game because of my button configuration where A = Smash, B = Jump, Y = Special, and X = Grab. The digital shoulder buttons also reduce any delay I would get with a GCN controller.
