How does melee netplay works?

I mean i already have the emulator and the game but i dont know how to comunicate with other people to play with them.
i really want to play some online matches, and btw it says that my id is: 34c17834 ( that is whe i click host netplay game)

Smashladder is the way to go, basically. Everytime you host, your "ID" changes.
