Alrit new to the whole YouTube channel thing, and am looking for advice and/or suggestions in regards to uploading my videos, as I don't think the method I am using is particularly... efficient?

I recently got my hands on the Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Capture Card and have been using the software that comes with it to record Smash videos. I took it to Adobe Premiere Pro to fine-tune it, then intended to upload it after I rendered it. It's currently sitting in the YouTube upload tab with 4 hours remaining. It's a 35 minute video (kick off to a For Glory series I'm starting to begin my channel with) and is about 3.1GB.

I feel like there's a better way to go about it. Maybe my upload speed is just really terrible? Maybe it's because I'm recording in the highest definition? File size? Not really sure. Does it normally take that long for stuff like this? Like I said, I'm extremely new to this kind of stuff, hehe.

Regardless, I'm interested in how you upload your videos. Your process, the amount of time it takes, and stuff like that! It'd really help me figure out the best method of action. Hopefully this is the right board for this - I appreciate your responses, other YouTube Smashers!

I'm a poor person so I don't have a fancy capture card, but uploading a 3 GB of anything onto the internet is going to take a long time. Especially YouTube, whose upload services are notoriously bad.

I would recommend to just wait it out. Maybe lower the quality of videos in the future if you don't have the patience

Good luck~

Compress your videos before uploading them. 3.1 gigs is massive for a video. Download Virtual Dub, it's pretty good at compressing videos with minimal quality loss.

Ah, it's not that I don't have the patience. I have a good record on my license because of that, hehe. It just seemed pretty abnormally long to begin with for my first upload, so I had to wonder if it was like that all the time or not.

That sounds like a good idea, @ 「 Derk 」 「 Derk 」 ! Didn't even think of that. I'll check it out, for sure.

When I used to post to Youtube a lot this is how I would upload the video.

Record it with my dazzle / HD PVR 2
Edit the video with Pinnacle Studio / Arcsoft
Compress the final video with MPEG_Streamclip using default compression settings
Upload to Youtube and ensure my computer did not fall asleep or lose power.

Cool. I've been doing some private test uploads and trying out some different programs. That sounds right up my alley @ DeliciousDarren DeliciousDarren , so I'll try it. How long did it normally take you per gig?

I've forgotten how long each vid took since it was so long ago, and my internet speed was terrible. I would say at least 4 times the video length back a few years ago.

For recording, I like Elgato HD60, can get 1080p 60FPS. But for streaming, Elgato you can run into some problems, so I like to use Avermedia C985, but if you aren't streaming, Elgato HD60 will be a great bet with high quality, and easy to use.

I then put it into Sony Vegas, apply 1080p 30FPS rendering, and then upload. Last 5:30 video I uploaded was 684MB if that helps. :p

I think I found a good way to do it. I downloaded HandBrake to compress the file rendered out of Adobe Premiere. It took so long because the video was 35 minutes and I had to do some changes in the video and wanted it to remain 1080p. Overall, putting into Premiere, working on it, rendering it, compressing it, and uploading it took about 3-4 hours. And the videos I have planned are going to be much shorter moving forward, so I think I've got a good method for now.

Thanks for all the help though, everyone!

For my channel I record using a El gato gamecapture card. I used HDPVR 2 for the longest time and had so many problems, I definately recommend the El gato if you are able to sell your pvr on amazon (thats what I did, got the full amount back and got a cheaper el gato).

I take it to premiere pro and render in to out...export the media and then upload to youtube. 30 minute videos may take a while depending on your computer specs and internet speed. I would recommend cutting that 30 min video to 15 minutes each. I feel like 15 min is good so most people will finish the video. Feel like 30 min is too long and most people will not finish it. Depending on your content of course, just my opinion.

Also if you wanna check out my channel as well!, just did some more intense 1v1 smash wii u games with my subs:
