After realizing that the physics of this game screwed up how I played Captain Falcon I decided to go ahead and main Snake because the concept of long range fighting was new to me. I was somewhat average with Snake until a few days ago when I learned how to Mortarslide. I decided that I was probably going to get destroyed at this upcoming tournament if I didn't learn how to. So one day after mastering Mortarsliding I enter the tournament. In the first round I play against another Mortarsliding Snake. The results: we go to sudden death but because he had lower percentage at the end of the match he won (we both had 1 life left) The entire match was basically Mortarsliding and Nade tossing with the occasional F-Tilt face offs.. I had a better use of Nikita and C4 and and he was better at Mortarsliding. It was enough for him to win I guess. (Had sudden death went on I felt I could have won) My question is this: Is Mortarsliding really all it takes to win a serious match? Are there any Snakes who are known for anything else than Mortarsliding. I pride myself in my ability to link Nades with Landmines and C4 but it doesn't seem to be enough. Are there any other techniques you guys use that you feel give you an edge over other Snakes? I just want to be the best Snake I can without being "generic". Thanks in advance for any replies.

Full charged upsmash, grab the guy, let the mortar drop on his face, same can work for U throw and D throw. What I like so much about Snake, is his 4th wall. He allows YOU to decide everything for him, his nade strats, nikita mind games, mortars, all stem from YOUR creativity. Hes a paintbrush, and the stage is your canvas, paint the scene red...

I like how you put that into words: Very colorful. =) And yeah that combo you mentioned is one I love to abuse. Actually I like U-throwing them before the Mortar hits so that they take the damage from the throw and the mortar and at lower percentages it can be followed up with a carefully placed U-air or U-Tilt. People tend to get pissed off when you're across the stage one second and then the next you've Mortarslided your way over to them and they're being tossed into a falling Mortar. Classic.

Snake's more of a thinker's character IMO. Snakes 1% broken moves, 99% mindgames. Fsmash is pretty much all mindgames, and so is dthrow tech chase, C4, mines, nades, etc.

oh yah, good spacing reaaaaally helps

What I like to do is be annoying as **** and piss people off. I don't care if I'm winning or losing, if you piss someone off enough, they lose their cool and you win. First of all, SPAM all your tilts as much as you can. If they find a way to counter one tilt, use another. Usually I start off with an insane F Tilt spam, grabbing people, doing nothing for a while, then d throwing, then going into another F tilt spam. Once they find a way around that, a U tilt finishes them off. After that, if they're a noob, I go into some D throw tech chases, if they decide not to tech out (which is stupid), I bring out my F Smash. When they're on the edge, on certain levels, a well dropped Nikita missile will result in a sweet *** stage spike, which is annoying as hell once again. If your opponent is very "earthbound" (not the series, earthbound as in being on the floor most of the time with not super strong aeriels), I like to use my Up+B, move a good distance near them and Bair. Nades are great as well, I use them all the time in some way or another.

I personally like the Uthrow mortar combo because it looks like snake is just suplexing them into the mortar. Pure awesome.

Good point, controlling the stage allows you to do some crazy stuff. What I like doing is setting some sort of trap in the middle of the stage and then down throwing my opponent. They will almost always roll away from the trap (experienced players that is. Newer players do not do this, they stand still on the floor and they don't know how to tech roll usually). As you know which way they'll roll, you can easily F Smash them.

I usually spam tilts so that way the guy rolls behind me. Then when they roll towards you, F-smash them for a good KO. I don't know if this helps you but it sure helped me. Hope this helps out.

Fixed for errors. Bolded corrections mines. Who needs good spacing when your tilts take up half of FD. That's like saying make sure you aim that nuke perfectly on top of that Ant. Okay maybe I'm exaggerating.

To beat Marth use Grenades and lots of them. Take them out and drop them, and smash them at him. Abuse your tilts, not that I need to tell you that. If he Fairs, poorly do a uptilt. Punish him with F-tilt. Mortar slide into him when he's not expecting it. So mostly grenades and F-tilt/uptilt for the kill.
