How do you guys deal with the lag?

So, I've been trying to jump back into this series and I was hoping that perhaps I could learn some stuff through online matches but the lag has been making that pretty much impossible.

I read somewhere on this board that lag is equal at both ends, so I had some hope it would mean both players could adjust to it. Tonight however I had several matches with someone where they would run combos on me while my screen stuttered away leaving me completely open. Already on a 50mbps connection, so I'm at a loss atm.

I realize Nintendo's networking is dead last in pretty much all aspects, but what I'm experiencing is pretty much unplayable. Any tips or tricks?

Before a game starts and you're on the character select screen you can test how laggy the game (might) be by changing the colour of a character, if there is a delay odds are the match will probably lag. Not too helpful when it comes to dealing with lag itself, but at least it'll allow you to save yourself a few games of ridiculous lag.
I know that some people will usually try and find other players who are in the same area as them so that they can have a few matches, and whilst this isn't always guaranteed to get rid of the lag it might be worthwhile to look into.

I don't, I spend most of my time offline because that's where this game belongs until 95% of the world has lightning fast internet tbh.

Hey you're talking to somebody who lives in Australia, so don't push your luck :p.
However I've never actually tried using the lan adapter, I've heard from people that it can have drastic changes on how laggy your matches are but I can't say I've used it myself.
