Thread kinda asks the question haha, how do you folks get over tournament loss? I just lost both my sets in melee as to which I have been preparing for all this week, my character was on point and my tech skill / combos / reads were also on point, but besides that, I got bodied to be honest. Before I was playing my tournament matches, I was doing godlike. I was beating people, having a good time, and so on. But once I stepped foot into my first match, I nearly got 3 stocked  and ever since earlier, I cannot get over these losses. I've been told that I should ask people what I did wrong and what I need to improve on, but I never find the time to play with people outside of tournaments, which barely gets me any practice. Also, I forgot to mention, I am one of those people who thinks that they have not improved at all and are not going to git gud lmao yeah. Thanks in advance though. (been playing for about 1 year, :falcomelee: main.)

Sounds like tournament nerves set in. Just keep going to more tournaments. Tournaments are so much more then just winning, the community is great. Become friends with the other players and hang out with them and do friendlies, and then you will get better while at the same time meet new people.

yeah, I've actually been to more tournaments than I can count to be honest. I started comp melee around last... August? and I've been going to monthlies ever since. I have no idea where the nerves came from though :/

Whatever you do please don't thinking badly about yourself. If the match was recorded watch it later and assess what you did wrong. I have lost many tournaments (i go to nebs for sm4sh in nyc) and the competition is fierce, but i keep going and get closer each time.
Overall tips:
If a top or known player is facing you don't be intimidated by them they are a player and person like you.

Assess your mistakes so you can improve, ask your opponent what you did wrong.

Just play the game. You will get better with time.

If possible get friendlies in to warm up before the tourney.

Keep tabs on how people play. After facing someone immediately record their tag, main and habits.

Example:

John Appleseed

Main: Falco

Habits: Double bairs on shield, baits with dash dances, multishines, laser camps, etc

Do this with every opponent so when you face them you know what to expect. Its also very simple to do and in due time you may have a page for everyone at your tourney.

I hope this helped.
