I'm for it, didn't care for the cutscenes. Though it will lessen the value of the game for many people.

As a bonus, enjoy this rant from AlphaOmegaSin/Unknown Game Reviewer #111111111999999999222222222

Basically explaining why it's a bad idea (To most people) to remove the story mode and cutscenes.

Didn't realize they were gone completely.
Kinda disappointing but since we've already seen them I'll live.

The cutscenes were BY FAR the best part about Brawl's single-player modes. They were epic.

The new challenger videos are more hyped up than the cutscenes in SSE, the best cutscene in SSE was the attack on subspace army, especially if you actually played them games and seen the ships!!! I laughed hysterically at Olimar's broken down ship. It was fantastic, but if there were going to be cutscenes in this game like the character introductions then yes I want them!

It's all right. We'll probably get some sort of cutscenes but they will be used with the in game engine. Look at Luigi, for example.

I liked the cut scenes and the story that was put together. I really hope they bring those back, somehow.
It was just the gameplay I didn't like much...

I didn't care for the cutscenes or the gameplay, the entire time I was thinking "PLEASE SAY SOMETHING, ANYTHING"
Screw that, sometimes there wasn't even music and it would be silent for the new 5 cutscenes. It was annoying.

Welk, you don't care, I care, in gamesradar's smash bros weekly, they all said that loseing cutscenes just feels like, missing something. I alway wanted to know what will the bewcomers interact with other veterans. I know it might now be possible but I hope Sakari can still make a cutscene-like anime on other things rather in Adventure mode.

I will admit that I liked the SSE cutscenes, but I won't cry without them. Most all fighting games I play are pretty devoid of them for the most part aside from endings, and Smash has enough content that I can live without them. It'd be cool to have some, but if there's none, I won't begrudge it.

I didn't mind the cutscenes in themselves, but I thought the Subspace Emissary was lame. I would have preferred they spent their time making a new character or two, rather than add a silly story to a game that needs no story.

So I'm happy they're not doing it this time around.

Glad to see somebody else agrees with me, the cutscenes were just pointless, the only reason to even play SSE was to unlock all of the characters easily, unlocking them without it is really difficult.

@ Skyfox2000 Skyfox2000 Ugh, you really have to use Sonic 06 Sonic as an avatar?

Yes. Sonic 06 does Suck. But I like the Artwork/Music!
The music is good, but I don't like the designs, especially for the human characters. But anyway, I didn't care for the cutscenes or the mode itself, I just wanted to play the game.

I wont miss the cutscenes at all.

SSE was neat, but it's not worth losing 3-4 additional characters. In the end the characters matter a lot more.

I really wanted to see how Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and Rosalina would have been implemented into the story. Especially those first two. I even came up with scenarios for them!

After :4villager:'s town was engulfed into Subspace/something else if there's a new evil force, Villager cheerfully strolls out on an adventure like Captain Toad to "make things right again", blissfully unaware of what a big threat the Subspace Army/whatever new evil force really is. Eventually, Sheik crosses paths with him, trying to keep this innocent boy safe, but by the time they meet, he clearly doesn't need it anymore, so the two become an unlikely duo.

:4wiifit: is a mysterious Captain Falcon-level badass who appears on the scene when least expected with her little animate Balance Board at her side being cute. Whenever someone else is in trouble, surrounded by mooks, screwed, she'll jog into battle and take 'em all out like a vegetarian Dynasty Warrior. Afterward, she'll join the character for the rest of the level, being a Level 9 CPU on your side if you're in single player. No need to thank her, it's what she does. During the climax when everyone teams up together, she'll be there as well.

When Samus and Fox reach the enemy's space base, :rosalina: descends to their side, being the third party member, escaping the base with them on the Comet Observatory before it explodes. When the whole gang comes together to raid Subspace/whatever else, Lucas and Villager seem a little scared, but she easily comforts them by holding their hands and protecting them at all costs.

Smash needs a story. Not everyone plays multiplayer only, and it wasn't silly.

I loved the cutscenes in SSE, I did think SSE was repetitive, but the cutscenes were awesome and made me realize that a whole lot of work was put into the game.

and who the heck doesn't think that the Ridley vs Samus and Pikachu cutscene wasn't frikkin EPIC! and unexpected. The Rayquaza cutscene was Awesome as well! Actually, there were so many epic cutscenes in that game, (Diddy joining Donkey, Falco, Meta-Knight VS Marth, Ness sacrificing himself for Lucas) that it really wasn't a chore to finish SSE. (except for the last part where you had to re-visit all the worlds and re-fight all the bosses).

I think people's main problems with SSE were that it Was the Adventure mode, and that there wasn't a more concise mode like the one in melee. and the Subspace army.

and I don't think cutscenes are gone completely, there were some cutscenes in Melee (Luigi, Metal Mario, Giant Kirby, Giga Bowser etc.) and one in 64, (Master hand lol) so why wouldn't there be any like that in Smash 4?

Anyway. Cutscenes are awesome. :)

SSE was epic, but I found it gimmicky in the end once the hype died down and I had all the characters unlocked. In the end, the majority of the people had issues with Brawl's game-play, which were arguably weak due to the massive time, data and energy being spent on cut-scenes for the SSE.

As for Sm4sh, I suppose some people will be upset that the characters won't 'interact', but I think in the long run, a lot more time was (and still is) being spent on the actual game-play and character balancing, which means that Sm4sh may last longer competitively as a whole; this is a very good thing.

TL;DR - I suppose SSE fans will be bummed at the beginning, but the extra resources that were spent on improving character balance and mechanics over the cut-scenes will probably be appreciated in the long run. That being said, I think we'll still see a few cut-scenes similar to what Melee had, which would be fine.

Meh. I really don't care.

Trivia: Most pirated versions of Brawl cut out the cutscenes :p

Smash needs a story. Not everyone plays multiplayer only, and it wasn't silly.
To this day I can barely understand what's going on in the Subspace Emissary. While having good single-player modes is important, multiplayer should always be the priority. Also, Subspace Emissary is kind of repetitive and gets old after a few playthroughs. I'd rather have a variety of fun and appealing single-player modes than an overemphasis on a single mode that you play through once and never touch again. If you like SSE, that's great, but Smash really doesn't "need" a story mode, and there are other ways of creating fun single player experiences. At any rate, it's really hard to create a coherent and engaging story in a crossover, and really hard to tell a story without text or dialogue, and I think there are better areas to focus on.

*Opinions*

I'm actually surprised to see how many people liked the Subspace Emissary, but to each their own.

The game isn't canon, and the story imo was silly. They just threw together a bunch of characters into this world. It's the kind of story I thought was the coolest thing in the world when I was in like, 5th grade. But maybe that was the target audience?

So now you're indirectly (Or directly) insulting me by calling me a 5th grader because I find exciting to look at my childhood icons saving the world? The SSE was targeted at people who love Nintendo characters and wanted to seem them working together rather than beating each other up.

I'll miss them, but after the pre-release era and playing through Subspace, I didn't really go back and watch them again.

Sakurai may have been a slightly bit too butthurt about the cutscenes. But hey, we get super awesome trailers so I'm okay with that.

They were amazing to watch at first but I can live without them. I would rather have their primary focus be on characters and gameplay.

I thought they were great in Brawl although, I'm not sure I was really... impressed by the world of Smash Bros. I mean, everything looked so bland and realistic but not in a good way. The animations were great and yeah, there were some great cutscenes dotted throughout but the newcomer introductions for Smash 4 trumps Brawl's cutscenes in terms of quality and just how better put together it is.

What I really want is an original opening like the one Melee got.

I don't really care. Subspace Emissary was one of the worst parts of Brawl for me and the cutscenes didn't really improve my overall experience. Sure it's neat to see them the first time around but the novelty wore off quick. As long as we get an awesome opening cutscene similar to Melee, I'm fine with no more story mode cutscenes.

The cutscenes were the only really enjoyable part of SSE, and even then only some of them were really cool. I don't think it's worth it dedicating so many resources to have a weak Kirby game with flashy bits in between, I'd rather have full focus on the multiplayer part then, I can live with just the newcomer trailers.

I liked the cutscenes for what they were when I first played brawl. However, years later with me being older, I no longer care too much about them.

After all, through these trailers we are already seeing unique ways these characters are reacting to one another. Reactions that makes more sense then Subspace ever did.

Cutscenes took up a lot of resources, I'm glad they are gone.

I still enjoy the SSE to this day mostly due to being able to beat the crap out of all the enemies, but looking back at it I can see why it was so poorly received overall and agree that it could've been done better.

As for the cutscenes themselves, I'll definitely miss them as I found them to the most enjoyable aspect of the SSE. It was great finally getting to see so many of my favorite characters interact in beautifully animated cutscenes together. On the plus side, they must have had much more time to work on gameplay and other things without having cutscenes to work on this time. Yes, there are different teams that work on different parts of the game, but they are all intertwined in some manner; what Sakurai doesn't directly work on himself, he still oversees. He needs to at least help out with everything in some ways, some in simpler manners than others. So yeah, if cutscenes were still a thing the game probably wouldn't be released as early as it's planned to right now. So with all that, I'm not truly upset that they're gone.

Although, Sakurai's justification for removing them is pretty poor IMO.

Pretty happy. Cutscenes in video games mean always that the game designers didn't know how to express that feelings/actions/story with gameplay. In my opinion, cutscenes are the same as intertitles in the early history of cinema. So if they want to express Mario killing Bowser, let me play as Mario and let me punch Bowser to death instead of making me stop playing.

And also... there is more storage in the game disc for pretty useful things. Those huge load times in Brawl were there because (among other reasons) there was a lot of cutscenes. So yes, I'm really happy.

I'n glad they're not in because then the game will come out earlier.
I am however really gonna miss them, and i would have love to see'n how they'd intruduce the new characters.
Also something to note is that the cgi intro's to the newcomer reveals have been awesome.
I have some kind of feeling the opening cutscene will just re-use the animated clips from the trailers.
