How do you effectively do Luigi's wavedash?

i do try, and i can use it to dodge backwards when i need too, but i have developed my own fighting style with luigi, and i just prefer running, and it's not like i'm rubbish with him, i did event 51 first time with luigi, without WDing at all

what helped me to do it consecutively was after doing a successful wave dash was ] by letting go of the analog stick in the neutral position and then repeating the short hop, L-trigger and locking my analog stick at 7 o'clock or 5 o'clock.
