If there is one thing I have trouble with, it's projectile spam in this game. I'm talking about the Links and Toon Links that "combo" out of bombs and boomerangs. I just need help dealing with the kids that do this. I main Jigglypuff, Toon Link, and Luigi. Projectile spam and defensive play ruin this game for me and it's the only thing that stops me from wanting to play the game.

Get in there. The only reason projectile spam works is because the opponent hesitates to respond to it. You have to weave in and start hitting them so that they can't really keep doing it. The moves that send out projectiles do have a fair amount of start and end lag and you can take advantage of that.

For example with Jigglypuff, her fair tends to be able to easily clang with projectiles and her aerials are great with approaching so you can easily approach by air, get just above them and start with a dair or something.

Luigi I cannot help you with, I don't play him much.

Toon Link's nair and I think fair can clang and don't forget his shield can block projectiles, use that to your advantage. Don't spam them but since you ALSO have great projectiles, use them. Approaching with uncharged arrows both while grounded and short-hopped can put pressure on them to make an advance, at which point you can respond to that.

Good luck and happy Smashing.

I've seen it many times and it doesn't really help online.
I see. Well, you'll either wanna simply jump out of the projectiles way and punish, use a projectile of your own, deflect, or simply keep dodging the projectiles until the opponent comes to you. FG players are quite impatient, and may eventually run towards you if you dodge on a part of the stage enough.

Can't help you with Toon Link, but...

Jigglypuff - Stay in the air and only touch down in between projectile usage. Stay just out of range of their physical attacks but close enough to make it unsafe for them to use their projectiles without risk of being punished. Your shield is a good option if you can't find a good time to touch down. Short Hop Aerials are the way to go and they're safe on shield too. (Short hop D airs are nasty)

Luigi - Use your Luigi Cyclone (Down B) to close the distance. Mix this up with your fireball approach. (Use a fireball and run behind it) This will force them to shield, of which you can grab and use your D throw combos. If they jump over the fireball use your F airs and combo them off-stage.

Use your fireballs to block their weaker projectiles because you have a higher rate of fire with your fireballs than any other single projectile in the game. Just be careful of any projectile combos that come out faster than 2 fireballs; just jump over those. (Samus missile into Charge shot or Link's Boomerang into Bomb and/or Arrows.

I say use the matches as an opportunity to practice perfect shielding. In my experience, just perfect shielding the projectiles while approaching them puts an opponent on edge since they can't keep their projectile pressure going. Of course, it took me many many many MANY failed months of practice to be able to do this on cue.
Does that mean do it on every projectile? Hell no. Some stronger projectile spammer users like Samus and WFT can use their balls of power to push you back or even break your shield if you're not careful. Especially if you're online and it lags just at the wrong moment.
Toon Link is the best guy to fight back, remember your shield blocks ONLY if you are standing or walking slowly. I find that throwing your boomerang backwards is a great way to have your only sneaky projectile on the field to come back outta no where and save your butt. It's also humorous to see it stop a charged smash attempt that would have ended you.
