How Do Pros do Aerial Attacks?!?

How do pros do it? Do most have tap jump on or off? The way I normally do them is by double sticking, but in order to do that without momentum loss, I have to change the c-stick to "Attack" instead of "Smash." If that's all there is too it, then so be it. But I know that momentum can be a big thing in battles, and I see battles where people perform elegant aerials despite being set to default controls. How do they do it? They aren't losing any momentum (I think) so I doubt they're double sticking. Especially nairs! Even with double sticking, I still can't figure out how they can shoot into the air and pull out a frame perfect nair whilst jumping forward, backward, or even a nair to fast fall. I just don't get it! WHAT AM I MISSING?

RE: Tap Jump

Depends. Some have it on so its easier to do their OOS options w/ a certain character i.e :4drmario: doing Up B whilst in shield.

RE: Momentum loss

If you're experiencing momentum loss when doing aerials, its because you are holding the C-stick in a certain direction. In order to have no momentum loss, you have to flick the C-stick in a certain direction. For example, in order to do retreating forward airs w/ :4sheik: you need to jump back and flick the C-stick forwards and immediately release it to its neutral state (where it normally would be if you don't touch it). The move will come out come out without losing any momentum from jumping backwards.

RE: Other stuff

In order to do nairs like the pros do it, you need to do this for moving forward:

:GCR: ->:GCX:/Whatever jump is set to -> :GCA: -> Then immediately press:GCR: to keep moving forward.

Backwards:

:GCL: -> :GCX:/Whatever jump is set to -> :GCA: -> Then immediately press :GCL: to keep moving back.

^ Its hard to describe, but these two need to be done in one fluid motion. Keep practicing so it becomes second nature to you.

Fastfall Nair:

:GCX:/Whatever jump is set to -> :GCA: -> Press :GCD: when you've reached the highest point in your jump. Applies to both Full and Short Hop.

Note that this is what I do, some people may do it slightly different or entirely differently altogether. Its just a matter of what feels comfortable to you.

Wow thanks! That helps a ton! I'll work on getting it implemented into my playing style! It'll take a bit of practice, obviously, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.

You can also do N-airs with C-stick set to attack by hitting the bottom corners of your C-stick while in the air:
:GCCDL: or :GCCDR: when set to attack.

There's a video by SmashCorner describing all the different types of benefits when setting your controller scheme up:

Pros do aerials however they want. Try everything and figure out what's best for you
