Hey I'm new here. I am 14 and I am interested in starting to play comp Melee. I would like some advice on setup and other things:

1. Does this HDMI component cable (https://zzblogs.wixsite.com/home/gc-video-plug-and-play-zblogs-zblog) work using a normal monitor for practice and does it have no input lag?

2. I want to main Marth, do you guys know of any good videos/guides on him and techskill?

That's it. Just coming so I'd just like some general pointers. Thanks!

I would recommend SSBM Tutorials on youtube for learning techskill and how to play marth and all that jazz but then after that I would just watch videos of good marths play to get an idea of how to handle situations/approaches (Good examples being PPMD's Marth, M2K's Marth, PewPewU, and Zain being some good ones). I would also try out netplay and learn there and then eventually try to see if you have a local scene and see if you can get into that but I recommend this after practicing your techskill to a point where you feel confident. Past that I'm not rlly sure because that's about where I am now with my first locals set to be in a few days.

The first thing I'd do is watch this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n4s5yB7ZkE) and see the tech skill you will need.
For marth the important tech to start playing is short hop, fast fall, L cancelling, wavedashing, and JC Grab.
IMO the best thing to speed up development is someone else your skill level you can play against often; having a training partner you can learn the game with can be more motivating to keep getting better.
