How do I redirect stage series icons?

The DK one is shared between every single DK stage. So if I take the DK stage's icon and replace it with a Golden Sun icon, all of the DK stages have a Golden Sun icon.

Is there a way to add them? I can see that the Project M team managed to do so with the Bowser icon, but I haven't the slightest clue.
